Boar's Head - Eagle River

Boar's Head has been a family cottage for over 50 years. I have spent every summer, save a few, in Eagle River. Ownership transferred just in time to provide the same experience for my children. We relish every moment spent here and are thrilled to share this slice of heaven with others. The space ***The 'street view' is of the highway - we are not on the highway! Boar's Head, a modest two story Greek Revival was built around 1850. Remodeling brought this cottage from somewhere between the Stone Age and the Industrial Revolution to a very comfortable modern abode. High quality salvaged materials were used; granite counter tops, tumbled limestone and Brazilian Cherry flooring. The kitchen is fully equipped, an island with counter seating and a table for breakfasts, card games or late night sessions solving world problems. The 1st floor bathroom has a shower/tub combination. A laundry room is also located off the kitchen with a washer and dryer, line drying outside is also an option. The next room doubles as a sitting room and the dining room. The bedroom on the first floor is where I stay when I am there but it is available with the rental The second floor has two proper bedrooms, an alcove ( bedroom #3) and a European style bathroom (basically a shower with a sink and toilet). The master bedroom has a queen size bed - very comfortable. The 2nd bedroom has a double bed and a bunk bed. Plenty of space for 9 guests. There is a large yard with a deck, patio table and chairs. In the shed you will find bikes and, sports and outdoor equipment - mostly located on the right side. My most favorite place on the planet is the front porch. Here you can greet the day at your own pace with a cup of coffee or tea. Each evening displays it's own unique sunset. Later you can make s'mores at the fire pit. Our neighbors are very friendly. The small village has a general store, mostly noted for its hand-dipped ice cream cones and casual banter. The Eagle River Inn with Fitzgerald's Restaurant (great barbecue, extensive whiskey bar and beer menu) is located on the shore - reservations a must. There is a public beach stretching from the river to end of Front St. Being the County Seat, Eagle River is the home to the Sheriff's Office (first response) and Court House. The Township Hall, the one-room school house now houses the Eagle River Historical Museum. No doubt Andy Griffith's Mayberry will come to mind. A wide open field for flying kites, playing baseball or soccer has a beautiful view of Lake Superior. An "old-school" playground and a tennis/basketball (or pickle ball) court is off to the side. Yes, you will have flies and mosquitoes but such a small price to pay for all of the possibilities to experience a life that has become so rare. Lots of places to ride your bike, road or mountain and several hiking trails are close by. I can tell you so much more information upon your request. Guest access Other than the cellar and the attic guests have access to the entire house. The yard access is limited to the mowed areas. Past the tree line is a VERY steep cliff to the river. DO NOT venture into this area.
