"The best small town in Connecticut" (Connecticut Magazine) "There are many reasons to visit this little slice of heaven in Connecticut. One thing is for sure, once you step into Chester, you will want to stay longer than you had planned." (Only In Your State) “Solitude when you need it, engagement when you want it. Walden Pond meets Broadway.” (Morley Safer, journalist / past resident) A bucolic town, pristine and quintessential New England. Pretty much year round this town is a destination place. This truly is one of those towns that makes Connecticut special. (Ann Nyberg's Network Connecticut) "A compact downtown that’s beautiful, friendly, and cosmopolitan, while hugging close its small-town New England character." (Yankee Magazine) "a jewel of a town out of a movie set- it reminds me of a quaint village of Provence, theater, galleries and great food". (Jacques Pepin, chef) "Chester, CT is a cozy little riverside village tucked into the hills near the Connecticut River. Chester, which is a few miles north of Route 95 and Long Island Sound has the feel of a tidy European town." (Travel Guide of America) "The tiny Artist Colony of Chester, CT. Contemporary artist Sol LeWitt, whose work can be found in most world-class modern art museums made his home here, and many others have followed. It’s the perfect place to pick up handcrafted jewelry, art, clothing, and crafts directly from the artist." (Getaway Mavens) In 1769, Jonathan Warner was granted permission to operate a ferry across the Connecticut River that became the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry, the second-oldest continuously operating ferry service in Connecticut. Its location is currently a state historical landmark and crosses from Chester to Hadlyme, nearby Gillette Castle, a popular tourist destination with expansive views of the Connecticut River. The 1959 film "It Happened to Jane", starring Doris Day and Jack Lemmon, was filmed in Chester. Portions of the 1971 horror film "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" were filmed in Chester, including the Chester–Hadlyme Ferry. In 2006, the Chicago Film Critics Association pronounced "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" the 87th scariest film ever made. There are three large, and very nearby public parking lots, in addition to usually ample street parking. Parking limitations (hours, time duration) are normally NOT enforced. We've all parked in town overnight, never received tickets - but there's always a chance. COVID-19: Guests who’ve been diagnosed with Covid 19 should absolutely not book our Airbnb. Additionally, if you have symptoms you will not be permitted to stay, and must cancel your plans. We're following the enhanced cleaning initiative by Airbnb, and taking all necessary precautions to protect our guests, our community and ourselves against. Additional cleaning time is needed and has changed our check-in times. Due to these changes, and depending on the schedule, we may not be able to accommodate early arrivals, or late departures. Thank you for understanding. - The second floor is accessed by a VERY steep outdoor stairway. We need you to acknowledge, in your reservation request, that ALL guests staying and visiting are capable of using these stairs, and carrying ALL luggage up these stairs. - The Lori Warner Studio/Gallery and boutique Swoon, located directly below, has an alarm system with a loud activation sound when the alarm is set upon closing. You will hear this in the apartment when it's set for the night. Our apologies. - Parking is on the street, it can be busy at dinner time and times throughout the day. Although parking is usually not an issue, if it happens to be difficult, we recommend double-parking to unload multiple bags, then finding a spot. You're also welcome to keep bags in the locked entry gate while you park. Chester is a small town, so there's never a long walk. At worst, there are THREE very nearby public parking lots, all less than a three minute walk. PLEASE do not park in lot behind Airbnb - this is a private lot. Also, please do not discard trash in this dumpster. - On Sundays, 10am-1pm from mid-June though mid-October, Chester hosts one of the best Farmers' Markets in the state, The Chester Sunday Market. NOTE: the village center, and road directly in front of the apartment is closed to traffic every Sunday 9am - 1pm during these months. - Our ideal central location means there may be some street noise. We've never had any complaints, but there's always a first. The bedroom is located in the back of the building, while the living room is located street side. Noise while sleeping is very unlikely.
