The Sanctuary: Intimate space in vintage church.

The Sanctuary is a self-contained, cozy apartment in a repurposed church. Antique furniture, stained glass windows and chandeliers live among the full bookcases. You can enjoy the steeple library or the cozy bar while on your laptop. A new mini split allows for heat in colder months and AC during warmer months! **Please note that this unit does have stairs to the kitchenette, bathroom and second room and is not accessible for larger walkers and wheelchairs. The space The Sanctuary is entered by passing through a vintage wrought-iron gate and then through the peaceful courtyard to the door of the space. In the bedroom, the full sized bed has a new memory-foam mattress with luxury linens. The locally-made headboard was created from church pew-ends discovered during renovation. An Oriental rug, Aubusson-inspired bedspread and matched stained-glass windows complete the picture... along with the signature antler chandelier, guest closet, and, of course, just a few books to whet your whistle. Speaking of that whistle, just across the stairway hall from the bedroom is The Altar Bar where there is an electric griddle, a fridge, microwave, toaster oven, electric kettle, crockpot and coffee pot. There's also a small TV, with cable and Wifi. The well-appointed bathroom has an Asian motif featuring a wonderful red-lacquered cupboard found in Camp Verde AZ, which complimented the style of a vintage mirror owned for many years. The corner shower is new and small, but mighty! AZ dust will rinse easily away! The steeple library room, bedroom 2 shown in pictures, is up one flight of stairs, reached through a narrow stairway that has an authentic and secretive vibe. This is a fine spot to enjoy your morning coffee or afternoon tea as it has comfortable cushions and pillows plus a library table to make it easy to peruse those oversized coffee-table books about the Southwest, architecture, fashion, landscape and maybe even Shakespeare! The cushioned bench in the steeple library can become an extra-long twin bed UPON REQUEST. The bed would suit a third person or provide a sleeping place for a guest who needs his or her own bed. PLEASE REMEMBER TO REQUEST if you need this bed as it is made up by staff. (No charge.) Thanks! PLEASE NOTE: the Sanctuary has one full size bed and an optional second bed, twin size, that is made from the cushioned bench and memory foam topper and will be made upon request. We periodically update and refresh the furniture and appointments in each space with unique vintage finds. You will find care taken in each room to make them comfortable and interesting. Let us know what you think! PLEASE NOTE: voices & sounds can transfer between apartments. Quiet time is from 10pm to 7am. Thank you for your understanding. **The Sanctuary has a mini split system to heat and cool the unit. It also has access to a charming shared patio area with patio lights, a charcoal barbecue and fire pit, used mainly from May through October. The shared patio has a new security camera for safety of guests. The cohost also lives on property in one of the three units, say hi! Guest access There is always street parking within a short distance of The Sanctuary and off-street parking may be available upon request. Private access to the apartment will be forthcoming to guests upon a confirmed reservation. Other things to note The church is home to three units; The Sanctuary, The Haven and The Idyll. The cohost, Ben, resides on the property in The Idyll adjacent to the Sanctuary while The Haven is separated via locked doors connecting to The Sanctuary. As such, noise may travel through the connecting wall. We ask all guests to please be aware of this and also respect quiet hours that are listed. Also, please note the exterior patio is the only shared space with the cohost and The Haven guests. Dogs are welcomed and guests may have one dog. Please advise us of any fur friends and list them on the reservation. Further, if anything shall be needed during your stay please reach out to Ben.
