Description

The Hyggelig Hytte is a one of a kind Nordic inspired cabin and sauna located in the heart of the Green Mountains. 30 mins north of Montpelier deep in the woods. Glamping and leaf peeping fun! Rustic romanic, hobo hideaway, bohemian hermitage, nordic nook. The space Inspired by my trip to the Faroe Islands in 2013 and my love of the Viking Age, this is your perfect one of a kind *rustic glamping* experience. This small 12'x12' 144 sq foot Nordic inspired cabin is located ~50 yards behind my house on 11 acres of mixed hardwood and evergreens. You have your own driveway (during the winter months, you will be parking at the bottom of the cabin's driveway), small fridge, toaster oven, and two burner cook stove. I provide coffee and tea. There are dishes, pots and pans in the cabin. There is a small electric heater for the winter months which gets it plenty cozy. Your driveway has a solar light at the bottom and is quite steep, it is located on the same side of the street as my home (1743) to the north (please follow the signs and do not use my neighbors driveways). You will need snow tires in the winter! You will park at the bottom in the winter. Sleeps 2 adults on a queen size bed which is a reproduction of the bed found in the Oseberg Viking ship. There is a foam topper for more comfort. Here you can enjoy hiking around the woods, picking blackberries and relaxing in Vermont's pristine beauty. Peaceful, rustic simplicity. Enjoy a fire in your own fire pit and take in the stars! No light pollution. Wild turkeys, bats, hawks, deer, and even black bears are seen in these woods. Great for couples, writers or backpackers. Starlink WiFi There is running water in the cabin for drinking, dishes, cooking etc. There is an outhouse behind the cabin. Showers, laundry and can happen in the main house during the winter months. An outdoor shower is available in the spring-fall. Fire pit and barbecue available for use. I provide wood, but you should bring your own kindling. Gorgeous woods to hike or snowshoe through. I have 2 pairs for you to borrow. I enjoy meeting new people, but do not need to socialize with you. I understand that people come to get away and I want to honor your privacy. I will let you know my availability if you need help or recommendations for places to visit etc. Depending on the season, you may see me in the backyard. East Calais is a small town with one general store. You are out in the woods on several miles of dirt roads. We are a 30 min drive from Montpelier, and a 1 hour drive from Stowe and Jay Peak, Sugarbush ski resorts. The village of Plainfield is a 15 minute drive away and has restaurants, bars and some shops etc. Hardwick is 20 mins north and has a fun downtown with shops and restaurants. There is no public transport in this part of Vermont. You will need snow tires in the winter and AWD preferably as the cabin is located on dirt roads (thought they are well maintained), but in the summer and fall this is not necessary. Guest access There is an outhouse behind the cabin. Showers, laundry and toilet can be accessed in the back of my house during winter. There is a sink in the cabin and running water. The outdoor shower is hooked up after the snow has melted- sometime in April typically. The sauna is now available for guests! Other things to note The cabin is located about 50 yards behind my home. You have your own driveway and it is one past mine to the north but is unmarked. It is steep and in the winter is not used. ****Please park at the bottom of my driveway in the winter months and walk back. Snow tires and/or AWD are highly recommended in the winter--Please do not attempt to drive up my driveway unless you have AWD and snow tires. ****Guests are responsible for getting themselves towed or removed if they attempt the driveway.****
