Welcome to the only house you can rent in the heart of downtown Clarksdale. Stumbling distance (literally) from the blues clubs and juke joints, we'll share all our fav places to go. Shared Experiences USA is a social impact company connecting you with a range of experiences and people in the community. This quirky, sublime chateau is our own home+office sometimes; we now invite you to live like a local, and make it yours! Read the photo tour for more :) *Each stay benefits a local nonprofit. *Shared Experiences USA was founded here in Clarksdale, and we're psyched to finally share our home with you. If you'd like, we can hook you up with our Experiences while you stay here (we'll list one on Airbnb soon; you can book the rest at SharedExperiencesUSA(dot)com). If not, we'll give you the keys and wish you a wonderful stay! *You'll find the place reflects our love for our local and historic roots, from its hundred-year old china cabinet, to the cotton and soybeans we just picked down the street. (Literally! You can touch em! So cool!) (Um, it also reflects the youthful exuberance and the strange and wonderful blend of insider/outsider Yankee naivete and Southern hospitality of our staff.) *It also reflects our own cross-cultural exchanges that reach beyond Mississippi stereotypes: intellectual curiosity and critique of that same history (books! good books!); political contradictions and playful eyerolling at our Yankee selves (ridiculous books!); and yes an unapologetic stock of emergency vegetarian food, California wines, and avocado oil. There are also plenty of glimpses into the Shared American Experience of people living their best lives in ways that have nothing to do with tourism or downtown revitalization or anything at all: witness the random ostrich in a tie, presiding. You're welcome to revel in it, too. *All that aside, it's just a darn great house. The history of downtown development means there are almost no *houses* downtown, which is why you see lotsa "lofts" on Airbnb. They're cool, converted spaces. We love and recommend them... but THIS place feels like home. Because for us, it is. Make yourself comfy; we sure do! * Depending on when you arrive, you'll likely receive a personal check-in from Hannah (she grew up here) or Calvin (he's doing a Teach for America graduate fellowship at Delta State after 2yrs of living+working in Clarksdale). You may also hear from Colleen, who founded Shared Experiences and calls our headquarters home. Thus why the place is equipped like it, and we hope it'll feel like home to you! * You'll have the whole place to yourself, but one of us is always nearby in case of emergency. If you need something but it's not an emergency, we may encourage you to REALLY live like a local, and provide directions to the nearest Walmart ;) Robin and her cleaning team will take care of the place after you leave. If you'd like more frequent service, let us know in advance. * If you're seeking a hotel experience, we'd love to introduce you to the visionaries who started the Travelers Hotel. The Clark House Inn is a fabulous, historic b&b; it was the first house in Clarksdale, ever (John Clark's, duh) and our home when we first moved here; we can't recommend it highly enough. The Auberge is a sleek, nationally recognized hostel, from our friends Robert & Lucy. You can also stay upstairs at the Ground Zero Blues Club, though alas Morgan Freeman & Bill Luckett won't personally check you in; if you're really lucky, Francine might. And of course a few blocks farther, you'll find the Clarksdale White House (from Billy & Madge at the Delta Bohemian), Honey Hill B&B by local musicians Torey & Heath, and our quirky+beautiful namesake+inspiration from the Mag brothers, Chateau Debris. Something in Clarksdale for everyone... and we highly recommend them all! There's not enough room to describe downtown Clarksdale here... @SharedExperiencesUSA is our Insta and FB, and our website SharedExperiencesUSA(dot)com profiles a bunch of the people and experiences we'll introduce you to downtown. Right here on Airbnb, scroll to the second half of the photos to take an abbreviated tour of the People In Your Neighborhood (the people that you meet when you're walking down the street, the people that you meeeet eeeach daaay!) (Yes, it's a regular Mississippi Delta Sesame Street here.) And once you're in town, the best tour of the neighborhood we can offer is the one we recorded ourselves, in partnership with Visit Clarksdale -- you can hear over 20 voices of the experts and locals who make this place great. (Go to their website for instructions on downloading the VoiceMap app.) Yes, there's parking right outside. Um no, there's isn't public transportation in the Mississippi Delta. Yes, THIS house is walking distance from most places you'll go downtown. (If you're looking at places across the river or more than a 10min walk from Ground Zero...don't drink+drive, and do ask your prospective host for more info before booking.) Btw, our founder first stayed in Clarksdale as a woman traveling solo. She wasn't sure where to go for a run, or whether she could walk home at night and feel safe. She also hasn't been able to get her Silicon Valley Uber+Lyft friends to support robust offerings in+near downtown Clarksdale (looking at you, Daniel)... So YES: this place is indeed a safe, stumbling distance from most of the major live music venues in downtown Clarksdale. At least that's our personal experience! * Please note this is also a work-in-progress; you'll see we haven't finished hanging everything on the walls yet. As such, you'll get a discounted price. We're hoping you'll be understanding if/when anything is rough around the edges, and really hope you'll share feedback so we can make the experience even better. We're learning as we go... and in a different way, we promise to help you learn as you go, too! If you'd prefer a hotel, we have lotsa great friends in town to recommend -- see below for a few.
