Selah Barn, a cozy and quiet retreat
Originally a hay barn built in the 1940's, Selah was part of a 50-acre farm (now 1-acre of bliss). Renovated in 2016, Selah Barn includes a kitchen (with refrigerator/freezer and icemaker, double cast-iron porcelain sink, and stovetop), a cozy living room with 2 couches and a recliner, and a full bath with walk-in tiled shower. The bedrooms have a bunk-house feel; with two twin bunks in one and a full-size bottom and twin upper bunk in the other. Come enjoy a peaceful retreat for body and soul! The space The outside walls of the rooms (with the exception of the kitchen) are all repurposed wood from the original barn. The cozy feel of the bunk rooms are reminiscent of Lisa's childhood stays at her grandfather's cabin and nearby summer camp. Enjoy some books while you're here (including Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew). Sit back on a couch and read a book, cook s'mores over a fire around the firepit, watch the stars on a clear night, or play a classic game around the kitchen table. The kids can run in the backyard to their heart's content. Then enjoy a visit to Stone Mountain to watch the laser show at night, just 25 minutes down the road. You can do a lot, or absolutely nothing! Selah was created for several reasons: 1) To serve as an office for David (that's why it isn't normally available during the week). The hayloft serves as his office while he serves dozens of faith-based networks of churches and organizations around the world to care for vulnerable children and families in their communities. 2) A space for visiting family. With 5 grown daughters and 13 grandchildren (so far), we wanted a fun and relaxing space for them while visiting. 3) A quiet spiritual retreat for foster/adoptive families, missionaries and visiting ministry workers from all around the world. 4) A small group space for Bible study and prayer. We normally host a small group one evening a week, during the weekdays, with the goal of building community and relationships. Please know that this space is bathed in prayer regularly. Making Selah available as an Airbnb space allows us to cover some costs of the ministry office. We hope for guests to use it as it is intended, and for it to be a blessing to each person that stays. Guest access You have exclusive access to the livable space in Selah Barn, including the kitchen, loft office, living room, bathroom and two bunk rooms. Please do not enter our storage room/shed (other barn entrance on the right) or woodshop (carport area on the left). Outside areas in the backyard are shared with our family - you might see us working on projects, grandchildren running and playing around the yard, or doing yardwork. Other things to note Selah Barn is cozy and comfortable. The total space is 864 sq ft, with the loft office (former hay loft) being 400 sq ft of that total. Each bunkroom is roughly 10 x 10 - great for sleeping (with 5 twin beds and one full-size), not so great for dancing. If you did want to dance, we've got a large backyard with a fire pit - so dance under the stars to your heart's content! I work from home, and the loft office is my main workplace (that's why Selah is usually not available during the week). When you visit, you are welcome to use the loft as you wish. My desk will be clean for you to use, as well as a custom-built table with chairs, plus a farm table, and another small couch (and the tv, which gets major networks over the air).
