La Ponderosa: A Southwest Colorado Experience

A private southwest Colorado oasis 15 minutes from downtown Durango. Two cabins surrounded by vast gardens, farm animals and an 8 foot tall privacy fence that surrounds the entire property. Two raised decks, outdoor fire pit, outdoor grill, hot tub, lounging chairs, hammocks and outdoor games create quite the atmosphere! Seasonally, we have an organic vegetable, flower and medicinal garden! Our farm animals are here to welcome you! The space The property has a ton of history! It's located just down the road from the historic Florida Church and is a part of the original Hood homestead in the mid 1800s. The newly remodeled lofted studio is filled full of character, from the travel photography on walls to the Jackson Pollock floors. The memory foam queen bed in loft and downstairs sleeper couch can accommodate up to four guests! The newly restored tiny home, has been totally renovated with new beetle kill pine ceilings , white wash painted wood walls, a new kitchenette and a basic living space with a 32” TV. There is a full sized bed in loft and a sleeper couch if the guest prefers it. FYI, the lofted bed is in a tight space and those that are 6’0 or taller, it will be a squeeze to fit normally in the bed so he/she may to opt to sleep on sleeper couch for more leg room. The Utah Buff flagstone back patio and outdoor living area is an awesome place to hang out with friends and family with a multitude of outdoor activities! The outdoor recreational area includes a hot tub , yard games area (corn hole and horseshoes provided), frisbee golf hole with three separate pads at 20/30/40 yard distances, multiple hammocks, lounging chairs, bbq grill and two picnic tables . A new feature we have an axe throwing and bow shooting target. FYI throwing discs or bow and arrows are not provided and must sign waiver to use target. The outdoor landscape is vast with Colorado wild flowers throughout, two vegetable gardens, an herb garden and a medicinal garden! We are a 5 minute drive from Horse Gulch, a renowned area to hike and bike, and 30 minutes from Vallecito and Lemon reservoirs. As pictured, we have Cookie, the mini-donkey, Kareem, the fainting goat, Betty the black bunny and 6 chickens who all live in the far south section of the property. All the animals are very sweet and one of a kind and are here to welcome you! As a new addition to the La Ponderosa experience, we offer many different options for guests. Paddle board and river tube rental (we have straps for guests but guests will require a vehicle to transport paddle boards ($20/ day/ board and $10/day/tube) 3. Rides to and from town ($30 each way) 4. Private parties for small gatherings for less than 50 people (inquire for pricing) 5. Private one hour massage by professional masseuse provided by Amaya Natural Therapeutics. We recommend guests book massages at least two weeks in advance for massages at house. ($120) Other things to note We have unique animals and eco systems and therefore untrained and or aggressive dogs are not welcome here. Sorry! The cabin’s water and waste resources are very sensitive and we kindly asks guests to be mindful of this for all water and waste. This property is very unique and is designed to create authentic experiences for all guests but that doesn’t come easy! Livestock, a vast gardening system, three cabins , a hot tub, two raised decks, outdoor games and more ! It is normal to have someone working on the property’s landscape or maintenance any given day on the compound for the property demands a ton of attention, however, rest assured, the cabins are all completely private.
