The space Arrowhead Lodge is a historic 100+ year old log cabin situated on Hopper Creek in the Jefferson National Forest. It is rustic and homey in the best sense of being welcoming and comfortable with plenty of space to spread out and relax both inside and out. It is a great base location for hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and all outdoors activities. Its large common area allows offers plenty of space for family celebrations and friend gatherings. Renew yourself. The extra large common area has several activities available including gaming table with cards, games, and puzzles available. Also there is a pool table, a ping pong table and a foosball table for lively and friendly competition. Additionally there are separate seating areas for reading, relaxing, or catching up with friends and family. The outdoor amenities on the property include a covered picnic pavilion with a built in outdoor grilling area. And, of course, there is the lovely porch stretching the length of the original structure overlooking a beautiful babbling stream. The lodge is located in the National Forest. It is perfect for disconnecting. Be aware that being in the National Forest means there is exceedingly poor cell phone coverage. You can choose to connect to our WiFi for texting or Wi-Fi calling, or even for work or computers. We connect through Wi-Fi to use our cell phones for mobile calling. Most smart phones can be set to WiFi calling, but be aware that there is ONLY Wi-Fi there. No house phone. Also no TV. It truly is set up as a getaway. Our guests frequently comment on the joy of disconnecting. We love hosting families for reconnecting and relaxing. We ask that any gathering be peaceful and considerate of neighbors. This is not a party house and we do cross check for student groups and do not allow reservations for those under 25. For families with small children, there are hazards such as stairs and decks in the lodge and these are BIG woods so a close eye is needed. But we do frequently host families with small children and they love connecting with nature. The lodge is beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. The house is very comfortable and we have made every effort to provide for an enjoyable time. There is a charcoal grill on site in addition to an outdoor fireplace. Linens and towels are provided. Our lodge is comfy and rustic. Important Plumbing Information: We want potential renters to be aware that we are on well water. We have recently updated both bathrooms, and have installed low flush toilets and lower water use faucets, as well as a new dishwasher and kitchen sink faucet to reduce water use. We have a water treatment system and a pressurized storage tank for the treated water. Because of the water source and system limitations, we highly recommend short baths/showers that are spaced out through the day (not ten people showering in the morning one after the other). Otherwise, the well and/or treatment and storage system will be drained too quickly. If this happens, you will have no water pressure until the system can replenish itself (usually about 20 minutes). This is covered in the house manual if you make a reservation, but for full transparency we wanted to assure potential renters were aware. ADDITIONAL PLUMBING RELATED INFORMATION: Because ALL bathroom facilities are on the second floor, this lodge is not a good choice for anyone with mobility issues who are unable to climb steps. Finally, as to plumbing, we do NOT have a washer or dryer on the premises. There is a laundromat about ten minutes away in Glasgow. Additionally, a reminder that the lodge is a 100-year old log cabin....In the woods. We do have specific, common sense requests of our guests to keep the house from attracting insects, pests and wildlife (such as not leaving food open on the counters and trash disposal). This is in the house manual. I only add these here to emphasize that we ARE in the forest and it IS an old house and there IS wildlife around, and as some renters have seemed to be surprised. 😀 Guest access Guests have access to the entire property. Please be considerate and leave the things that are there. Other things to note In cooler weather, we have heat in the bedrooms, the bathrooms and the kitchen. The den area is heated by a mini-split HVAC system, a gas fireplace, a wood burning stove as well as an electric fireplace and auxiliary space heaters (It is a very large space with high ceilings). We do provide the wood for the stove. We have been at the lodge in the depths of winter and it has been plenty warm and comfortable. But guests keeping a fire going in the wood stove is very helpful to keep the large lodge area warm. In warmer weather, we do not have air conditioning in the bedrooms. However, we are shielded from the sun, we have plenty of windows that open for cross breezes and a roof vent, and the temperatures are modulated by the creek that runs by the house, as well as the fact that we are at a slightly higher elevation. We also have fans available. We have not had any issues with being uncomfortable during the summer, even when the temperatures outside are in the mid-90’s. But please just be aware of the air-conditioning situation.
