The house named CASA NARANJA is located three hundred meters from the beautiful Playa Negra beach and just a kilometer from the small caribbean vilage of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. The house, surrounded from a beautiful forest, is spacious and comfortable with a well-furnished kitchen, two double occupancy rooms (one on the top), two single sofà beds in the dining room, a private bathroom and large covered porch looking on the tropical garden. The property is located in a large tropical garden just three hundred meters from the beautiful Playa Negra beach and one km from Puerto Viejo village. The houses, built in a coloured caribbean style, are fully furnished and very comfortable. The little town of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, sleepy during the day and lively in the evenings and at night, offers endless possibilities for all ages. You can take a stroll during the day along the main street or along the beach passing by a gelateria, a souvenir shop to a “soda”, a small food stall, where you can enjoy the famous “gallo pinto”, a tasty local dish made of rice, eggs and black beans accompanied by cheese and served for breakfast. If you know a bit of Spanish or English it is nice to engage in conversation with the locals who are always kind to strangers, although always in a rush… The Saturday market (open from 6 am to 11 am) offers quality organic products has a pleasing atmosphere and is frequented by tourists and locals. The restaurants, with Caribbean or ethnic food, are worthwhile and make the area one of the most varied in gastronomic options and culinary culture. Naturally the Italian restaurants differentiate themselves for the quality and gastronomic fantasy and contribute to making the area one of the most varied in Costa Rica for food. Pubs and discos take care of the night and the many young foreigners who often enjoy the Caribbean with a sleeping bag and a surf board. For the lovers of the sea obviously the opportunities abound. You can simply enjoy the many beaches, often rather deserted, among which “our” Playa Negra, Cocles, Playa Cahuita, Punta Uva and Manzanillo. The surfers appreciate the “break point” of Salsa Brava and Cocles, while those interested in fishing, scuba or snorkeling have endless opportunities to enjoy their favorite activity. In Puerto Viejo and Punta Uva there are great diving centers who organize PADI courses and daily excursions. In town the many tourist agencies offer a variety of excursions by boat, from fishing in the high seas to hidden locations which allow you to get to know what local fishermen do. The snorkeling is especially good in the national park of Cahuita where the barrier reef offers protection to a variety of species which is truly extraordinary; still there are points of interest also in the area of Punta Uva and Manzanillo. The lovers of excursions have many choices too. Not to be missed are the north view of the Parco Cahuita (with free entrance to anyone from Cahuita) which is an extraordinary example of the costal rain forest and south of the Refuge of Gandoca-Manzanillo which is another splendid coastal area which, after the lovely Punta Mona, takes you to the border with Panama. With departure from the small marina of Moin you can reach, with three hours of navigation of the Canal of Tortuguero, the most important location in the world for sea turtles. This is a true oasis of land and water where you can admire an incredible variety of animal and vegetal species. Over the border, towards the south, you can reach Panama in two hours by car or bus and visit the famous Archipelago of Bocas del Toro and appreciate the beauty of the uncontaminated sea scape filled with mangroves, crystal clear sea bottoms and the lively community of Isla Colon. On the hills of Talamanca, the indigenous community of Bri Bri is not to be missed to have a direct contact with the Indio culture and get to know their way of life so different from ours. The Jardin’s owners are Anna y Alfredo, an Italian couple who live in Costa Rica since a few years. We live here and we interact every day with our guests. I'm Alfredo, sixty years old, I have always working in Italy and abroad as an architect in the area of conservation of national treasures and scenery. In Costa Rica I have realized the dream of my life building two beautiful houses made of wood in a corner of the tropical forest with three apartments to rent at only a few hundred meters from the beach of Playa Negra, on the Caribbean coast not far from the magical location of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca. I live in this place of peace and silence since almost a year and I love to share its beauty with my guests. --- Anna, forty-two years old, with a degree in theater history. I live and work outside of Italy since almost twenty years now. Recently I realized a bed & breakfast in Capo Verde that I left a few years back to move to Costa Rica. In Puerto Viejo de Talamanca I design and create gardens, my greatest passion, and in Playa Negra we have opened a small nursery for the production and sale of ornamental plants. It is a space that we make available to our guest interested in getting to know the local flora species. The small village of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a lovely location of afro-Caribbean culture lying on the sea and located along the south coast of the Atlantic Ocean in a natural context of unparalleled beauty. A good part of the population here is made up of African descendants and Europeans that over the years have settled here to work or simply to live its beauty. The beaches around the town are among the most beautiful and renowned in the whole of Costa Rica. Among others: Playa Negra, Cocles, Playa Chiquita, Punta Uva, Mazanillo. My houses are located only three hundred meters from the extensive beach of Playa Negra which, after a few kilometers, reunites itself with the splendid national park of Cahuita. The town offers all services and can be reached easily on foot or by bike in just a few minutes. I prefer going to the center of town by walking along the beach so I can experience the spectacle of the cormorants that fish very close to the shore and to enjoy all of the beauty of this coastal desert, a pearl between the cobalt blue of the ocean and the emerald green of the vegetation that frames it. You can easily reach the village of Puerto Viejo in a twenty minutes walk among Playa Negra beach. The main touristic beaches can be reached by car, bikes, bus or a very convenient taxi service. It is possible to organize and book several tours directly at our Jardin
