Description

Stay in our custom designed tree dwelling w/ wood-fired cedar hot tub up among the trees! This unique structure is perched atop a 21-acre wooded hill sloping to water views. Enjoy stunning views from the King size bed through a wall of windows. Located in a classic coastal Maine village w/ Reid State Park's miles of beaches + famed Five Islands Lobster Co. (See 2 other tree dwellings on our 21 acre property listed on AirBnb as "Tree Dwelling w/Water Views." See our reviews!). The space Part modern tree house, part tiny house, this abode is called "Souhegan" (which means "Watching Place") because of the gorgeous views of the river and neighboring conservation land. The dwelling consists of two elevated structures connected by a rope bridge (structures are elevated on posts and trees); a second rope bridge leads to a wood-fired cedar hot tub elevated up among the trees (we provide fire-wood for the hot tub). We've used vintage and salvaged materials when possible. STRUCTURE #1: a two-story structure: master bedroom on the second floor (accessed via a SPIRAL STAIRCASE), with a wall of south facing windows affording stunning river views; includes KING SIZE BED (or two twin beds upon request); on the first floor is a small kitchen and dining area (with large windows for water views), a small full bathroom, and a screened-in porch with rockers and river views. KITCHEN & COOKING DETAILS: two-burner stove, sink, small fridge, pots, pans, dishes, toaster oven (no regular oven), 4-cup drip coffee maker that we provide filters for, salt & pepper and oil. There's a charcoal grill at the dwellings, if you plan on having a cookout, please bring your own charcoal. For late night stargazing and s'mores there's a fire-pit on ground level, please bring your own fire-wood for the fire-pit. STRUCTURE #2: is a convertible space with a wall of water-facing windows. UPON REQUEST (for an extra fee of $20 per person/per night, this fee includes labor of converting the living room space into a bedroom + extra linens and towels for the extra guests), we can set it up as a second bedroom (with either King size bed or two twins, do let us know at least one day in advance) or we can set it up as a living room space with sofas and coffee table. There is a water-facing veranda off the front of Structure #2. PLEASE NOTE: as much as we love pets we have a strict NO-PET policy in our dwellings! WATER: The water in our dwellings comes from our own private well. It is safe to drink and we test if every year. However, you might notice it tastes slightly of minerals/iron, this is due to the water coming from our own well. Again, it is totally safe to drink, shower and cook with. CANOES & KAYAKS: Canoes and kayaks are available to use free of charge during your stay. You can find them and the launch by foot by walking down towards the gathering space, over the bridge, take a left and stay on that dirt road, past the boat yard and over the little hill. At the top of the road keep left and you will see the river and the red barn doors. By car put in 116 Back River Bend into your maps, follow that road past the boat yard up the little hill. Parking is to the right, then walk down toward the barn and the boat launch. Lifejackets can be found in the plastic tote by the canoes & kayaks. For more info on how to use them see the binder inside the dwelling. YOGA: Private yoga classes are offered in our beautiful gathering space. Classes are $75 for 60 minutes. Message for more details. PROXIMITY TO OUR OTHER DWELLINGS: Our 3 dwellings are located about 160-170 feet from each other, all angled in slightly different directions for privacy. There are 2 other tree dwellings on our 21 acre property listed on AirBnb as "Tree Dwelling w/Water Views." See our reviews! AUTUMN VISITS: Come stay in the tree dwelling in Autumn for stunning views of foliage and crisp walks along the marsh back to the tree dwelling to warm up in the cedar hot tub. The dwelling is well insulated and warms up quickly with our top quality wall mounted heating units. WINTER VISITS: The tree dwelling is open all year round. They stay super cozy on cold nights, and there is no better time of year to sit in the hot tub, snow flakes swirling around you. Warm up after a day of cross country skiing or snowshoeing. THE VIEWS: Both structures have views across down the large tidal Back River. In the distance you can see where the Back River meets up with Kennebec River just before both flow into open ocean and past Seguin Island (where a light house was commissioned by George Washington). Across the Back River from the land lie hundreds of acres of pristine conservation land. Part of the year, this tree dwelling will be used for the Seguin Artist in Residence Program at the Seguinland Institute. Guest access The space and the 21 acre property are yours. There are two other one-bedroom tree dwellings on the property, each well spaced out to give plenty of privacy. In addition, guests have access to adjoining 40 acre peninsula with docks, trails and cottages. The two other tree dwellings are also listed on AirBnb as "Tree Dwelling w/Water Views." Take note of our reviews. Other things to note This dwelling is setup with 1 king and 1 living room unless specified otherwise. Please reach out at least 48hrs in advance if you’d like the living room setup with a bed. Also let us know if you’re planning to be more than 2 people during your stay so we can include enough towels for everyone.
