Description

This guest suite blends vintage furniture and artwork with a 70's-inspired decor. Original wood-paneled walls and countless potted plants complement the gorgeous mountain views and wildlife that can be seen from the windows and private balcony. NOTE: This unit is below our home with an active toddler & across the hall from our office. It can be noisy at times. We overlook horses, so you may hear occasional neighing. If you have allergies to animals, this space may not be best for you. The space Original wood paneled walls with lots of funky Topanga 70's vibes. The balcony makes this space perfect for anyone wanting to feel more in touch with nature. You will see so much wildlife just out our backdoor! The bathroom and kitchen were more recently remodeled so everything feels fresh and clean! We stock it as much as possible with all the essentials and are happy to share if you ever need some herbs from our garden or a specific spice from our kitchen. NOTE: Kitchen does not include a full oven but instead a small convection oven. We have a very comfy tuft & needle queen bed on a raised slat platform. We use all non-toxic cleaning products, including unscented laundry powder sourced in bulk from my zero waste shop in town! The space is filled with mostly vintage furniture, artwork and secondhand housewares. We try to be as eco-friendly as possible and reduce purchasing new items (except sheets and towels, which are all natural fiber cotton or linen). We have taken a lot of time to collect these special pieces, so please handle with love. We have two rescue dogs who are mostly kept inside. Our big dog Smokey Jo occasionally sunbathes in our courtyard garden and if you see her, she is very friendly and loves attention. Both dogs love to bark to say hello to guests when they walk by. They will quiet quickly, but if you don't like dogs, this may not be the ideal place for you. We also have a young toddler who is often exploring outside in our garden. If you have children, let us know and we can share a basket of toys and books! The house was built in the 60s and does not have the greatest sound barrier, so it can be noisy when we are in the room above your space, but we try to limit noise between 8pm and 9am. Also, we live nextdoor to horses, so there may be some interesting noises throughout the day and night. The horses sometimes are part of riding lessons. It's a very lively neighborhood but compared to the city is a wonderful escape. Guest access You will have a private entrance to your own large studio with private balcony. From the driveway, where you will park, you have to walk down 2 sets of stairs. We have outdoor lights, but the property is somewhat dark out of respect for the nocturnal animals. The main house is not shared and you should have everything you need downstairs. If you find you are missing something, please let us know and we are always happy to share! About the neighborhood: A gentle ocean breeze provides a pleasant climate in the neighborhood where secret walking trails take you through the lush scenery. Go for a hike and a picnic in the morning and then head to the shimmering local beach just 15 minutes away. We are in the hilly part of the canyon, which means the best views, but also narrow steep roads. Take it slow and enjoy the sounds of nature! This neighborhood is known as Fernwood due to it’s lush landscape, which may not be best for those with sensitive allergies. It is best to have a car in LA because it’s so spread out. You can walk to our small town of Topanga from our house but it’s about 2 miles downhill and then you have to walk back up!! We’ve done it and it’s not bad. There are also some great walking trails just steps away from us. Uber & Lyft do come up here when requested, but it often takes some patience. We are about 10 minutes driving from our local beach with tons of free street parking on Topanga Blvd (look at the signs to ensure you are in a free parking zone). I also include other favorite beaches in the printed guide in your room. The first time you drive to our house, you may be a little nervous because of the windy curves of the road! It may feel like forever, but it's actually only 1 mile off the main boulevard to our house. Drive slow and take in the sights... beautiful rock formations, the frogs singing by the creek and the quirky houses! Other things to note Our home was built in the 60s, so you may hear footsteps above or muffled noise. We try to be as quiet and respectful as possible. Parking is very limited in our small cul-de-sac, so please make sure you park in the designated spot in our driveway. I will send you instructions before you arrive. If you smoke cigarettes, please use the designated ashtray and do so away from the house windows. I do not want my toddler exposed to the chemicals in nicotine. Cannabis is less of a concern, but please be mindful of the dry brush since we are in a high fire zone. If you smoke inside, I will have to take a $200 fee out of your deposit. Cell reception isn't great in the canyon, so please be prepared to not have any service until you connect to our wifi. Be prepared for power and internet outages, road closures, evacuations, spiders and more! You aren't in the city and things can get wild up here ;) Like most Airbnbs, we don't allow non-registered guests on the property without our consent, so please ask us if you'd like to have visitors over and I am sure we can accommodate! There is a 2 person max for this studio for overnight guests. We keep the kitchen stocked with all the basics and try to source everything organic or GMO free: olive oil, balsamic vinegar, ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, hot sauce, cayenne, crush red pepper, Himalayan salt, cinnamon, etc. PHOTO SHOOTS: We are open to photoshoots, but this must be disclosed ahead of time as we have a separate location fee.
