Description

A charming, cosy self contained one bedroom cottage situated adjacent to our home & sharing the drive. The bedroom can be made up as a twin or s/king sized double, please tell us in advance which you’d prefer. (Last minute bookings with less than 48 hours notice will not have the option to request this, sorry). (Air bed for 3rd guest. ) Pets are welcome but there is no space to let them off the lead as the patio area isn’t enclosed so you will need to take them for a walk. Lockbox self check in. The space ON ARRIVAL The Old Dairy is a brick building which backs onto the road. The driveway is shared with our home and you can park immediately in front of our wooden side gate to the right of our house opposite the ‘Guest Parking’ sign. (Parking is nearly always available but sometimes we have to have access for hay deliveries/horseboxes etc in which case there is a little free car park a few doors down or kerbside parking and we will notify you). Entry is via a key safe located to the right of the front door, the code will be given before arrival so you can let yourself in without having to worry about someone being here. There is no smoking inside the property. You may smoke in the patio area but please dispose of the butts before you go. As we live here and our house is right next to The Old Dairy you will possibly see us coming and going to work or on the school run, or I might occasionally ride my horse past. We will not go out of our way to disturb you or intrude on your space but it is something to be aware of. The cottage is right next to the road. It is a quiet village however, being rural we do have farm vehicles coming past. We feel it is quiet but it is not completely silent LIVING ROOM/DINING AREA The property has been carefully decorated and comfortably furnished. The front door opens into the deceptively spacious living room/dining area. A large, comfy sofa and armchair will provide ample relaxing space. The TV is a smart TV and you can access Netflix, Amazon Prime etc providing you have your own log in. Please remember to log out when you leave. We also have a large selection of DVDs. There is free WiFi, books, games, puzzles and magazines available to help make you feel at home and relax. There is a dining table and chairs. Mats and plates, cutlery etc are in the Welsh dresser. We’d prefer dogs slept in a bed on the floor, but we are dog owners and lovers and know you can’t beat a good puppy snuggle, so please bring an old towel or blanket if you want your dog on the sofa and only let them up when they’re clean and dry (There is an outside tap by the kitchen window for washing muddy boots and dogs). If you forget to bring dog blankets, there are blue fleece blankets available in the right hand cupboard under the mirror. If you use these, please leave them out for washing at the end of your stay. (Please do not use blankets from the bedroom for your pets to lie on). Please do not let your dogs onto the beds, even with the blankets. If it is apparent a dog has slept on bedding then guests will be billed for specialist cleaning. If you absolutely must sleep with your pet, we would much rather you booked elsewhere and respect this rule. Thanks. KITCHEN The kitchen is actually the old scullery which was attached to the dairy. Both our house and the cottage are heated from a ground source heat pump located in our paddocks. This comes into the property via the scullery and there is a very large heat pump system in the kitchen including exposed pipework which can’t be boxed in as access is needed - however this is behind you as you make coffee/prep food so not something which you have to look at :). This does however provide a lovely warm area for clothes drying in the winter months. We respectfully ask that you do not press any buttons or turn any knobs on this system. If you wish to adjust the temperature in the cottage, there is a thermostat on the left hand side of the kitchen door. There is also an electric fire downstairs a but please don’t turn the thermostat to full blast as it will cause issues with the pipes. You will hear a click when you turn it and it gets to the point it will come on at. The heat pump runs the heating and hot water for our house too so it will sometimes be running even if you are not using anything. There is a fan for warmer months. There is a set of basket drawers between the heat pump/boiler which you may wish to use to store dry food and a small fridge-freezer. Please Note! Most of the kitchen cupboards house heat pump fittings and also a water softener. The kitchen is well stocked with a small counter top oven/grill, induction hob, microwave, air fryer and a slow cooker. Tea and coffee making facilities including a coffee pod machine with a selection of pods and a good selection of teas available. Also cooking oils, herbs and spices. All dining crockery, cutlery and glasses are in the Welsh dresser along with a variety of cups and tea pots. Feel free to use all of it apart from the blue tea service on the dresser shelves which is display only. There is a fire blanket, universal fire extinguisher and also a smoke detector in the property. There is not a carbon monoxide detector as the heat pump is electric. A first aid kit and some phone chargers are also provided. A booster seat type high chair is available for use, it is kept in the under stairs cupboard. There is a washing machine for guests use, with eco wash sheets found in the under sink cupboard. BEDROOM The narrow dog leg stairs lead directly to the bedroom. There is no actual door, it is almost like a mezzanine. The bedroom is situated under the eaves and has reduced headroom where the beams are so do please mind your heads. There is a choice of having either two 3ft singles or these can be zipped together securely to make a very spacious superking size bed. Please let us know which you’d prefer in plenty of time then we can make sure it is ready for your arrival. Both the superking size and the twins have quilted mattress toppers to make your night’s sleep extra comfortable. All bed linen is provided and there are drawers and a small wardrobe area for clothes storage. There are spare pillows and blankets also. If you have a third guest travelling with you we can provide an air bed and bedding, however we feel the property lends itself better to two people due to its size and layout. A travel cot (you need to bring your own bedding for this) and a high chair which fastens onto a dining chair are available for you to use. We cannot accommodate children who are toddling or at the exploring age as the property is not suitable due to no stair gate or bedroom door and the boiler system housed in the kitchen. SHOWER ROOM There is an en-suite shower room. Towels are provided. We also provide a range of eco friendly ‘Miniml’ bathroom products including hand wash, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner, along with cotton wool balls and buds for your convenience. Extra supplies can be purchased locally. OUTSIDE To the rear and side of the kitchen there is a small seating area with a bistro table and chairs and a small BBQ to enable you to enjoy a relaxing glass of wine or some al fresco dining. You will need to provide your own charcoal. There is an outside tap in the patio area for cleaning off boots, dogs etc. A boot rack is provided outside the door so dirty boots don’t need to go inside. EXTRA GUESTS We feel the cottage is best suited to two people or a couple with a baby and this is how it has been set up. Occasionally however, people ask about bringing an extra guest or an older child. We do not object, however due to the bathroom being an en suite, please ensure this is something you are happy with prior to booking as a third guest will need to access the bathroom also. We can provide a single airbed, bedding and towels for a third guest and it is £25 per night extra. Guest access If you bring your dog they MUST stay on the lead whilst outside on our property so that they do not get into our main garden or on the road. Guests have access to a small seating area to the front/side of the property. I no longer allow guests to freely access our outdoor space as our little dog gets quite upset by strangers appearing and it wasn’t fair on her. Also our other dog is the opposite and makes a nuisance of herself! However I am quite happy to show you the horses, etc. If you wish to go and see them, just let me know and I can take you down and make sure our dogs are safely in the kitchen. Other things to note If you are coming for a special occasion, perhaps a birthday or anniversary, we’d love to know, so we can do our best to make your stay a little extra special. It is very important that the thermostat is not turned onto full. This has happened with a previous guest and caused several pipes to expand and leak - guests will be liable for the cost of repairs if this occurs. You should not need the heat to be above room temperature (21d). There is a portable electric fire if you do require more. We respectfully require that dogs are not allowed on the beds and are not left unattended in the cottage. Pets left alone in unfamiliar settings can cause damage for which you will be liable. When you go out or check out, please switch off all lights, devices and appliances and please do shut Al windows particularly the Velux as rain can pour into the bedroom. When you check out, remember to log out of your accounts on the TV. Please don’t leave washing up, or the lights on. The key can be returned to the key safe. Any problems or questions, do let us know before you leave - we want your stay to be as enjoyable as possible.
