Cornwall Cottage

Relax with the whole family at this historic cottage that was renovated in 2021. Peaceful and spacious accommodations (including a king-sized bed!) will make you feel right at home. Take a picturesque stroll into charming Cornwall Village, spend a leisurely day at Lake Waramaug, rent an electric bike to see the iconic covered bridge, behold the mighty Kent Falls, unwind with fly fishing in the Housatonic, or hit the slopes at Mohawk Mountain Ski Area. Fun in every season! The space This is a 1400 square foot farmhouse-style cottage that is located on a private estate. It was originally built in the 1800s and underwent extensive renovations in 2021, including a new kitchen and mudroom. Access to the cottage is through the 3-season porch at the back of the house where a wall-mounted set of hooks lets you stow your gear away from the elements. From there, it’s one step up into the mudroom where you will find seating to remove your shoes, more hooks to hang your coats and bags, and a full-sized washer and dryer. Through the mudroom, you enter into the gorgeous modern kitchen that features stainless steel Samsung appliances (please note that the refrigerator unit is compact at 24” wide with 11.3 cubic feet of storage), stone countertops, and a farmhouse sink. The dining room has a table that seats eight and a bar cabinet equipped with entertaining essentials like modern wine glasses and vintage champagne glasses, bottle opener, corkscrew, and shaker to whip up classic cocktails. The spacious living room has a decorative (non-working) fireplace, midcentury modern couch with chaise that comfortably seats 6, two wingback vegan PU leather chairs, and a built-in bookcase that is stocked with books, games, puzzles, art supplies, and even some toys for young children. A 55” Samsung HD smart TV hangs over the fireplace mantle and has apps like Netflix, Hulu, HBOMax, Disney+, and Amazon Prime that you can log into with your own accounts to enjoy internet-based streaming. The downstairs bedroom has a king-sized bed with an en-suite bathroom that features an antique claw foot tub to make all your luxurious bath dreams come true. Upstairs, there are two additional bedrooms and a second full bathroom with a traditional tub to make bathing the little ones a breeze. The larger of the two upstairs bedrooms has twin beds that each have a pull-out trundle; we recommend that only children or smaller-sized adults sleep on the trundle beds as they are not as large as a standard twin bed. The other upstairs bedroom has two twin beds that can be combined into a nearly king-sized bed depending on your preference. Our guests rave about how comfortable our beds are - they are each topped with a bamboo mattress pad that assists with temperature regulation while cushioning your body in a way you didn’t know was possible. We use percale sheets by Nautica and linen-blend duvet covers that are washed on a hot setting between each set of guests. We also bleach all bath towels between guests to ensure the highest standard of cleanliness. Each bedroom has a Dohm sound machine in case you prefer to sleep with a little background noise. Most bedside lamps have built-in USB chargers for your convenience. ***Please note that Cornwall Cottage is tastefully decorated for Christmas during the month of December*** Guest access The whole house is yours! You have free range of the entirety of Cornwall Cottage with the exception of the basement which we do not permit guests to enter for safety reasons. Other things to note We have a friendly dog named Piper; she is a black hound mix who is getting on in years and not quite as spry as she used to be. She has unrestricted access to the property grounds (NOT inside the cottage) and loves making friends with everyone who comes to visit, so don’t be surprised if you find her trotting after you wagging her tail or giving you a hello bark when she sees you pull up! Please make sure you are comfortable with potentially crossing paths with Piper before you book Cornwall Cottage because she lets herself in and out via a doggy door from the main house (where we live) at her own leisure, so we cannot guarantee she will not interact with you during your stay.
