Welcome to Heima - Norse for 'at home'. Guests have exclusive use of their own entrance, bathroom, relaxing bedroom and own garden. The separate Breakfast Room has panoramic views. From 18.00-22.00, it is available for carry-in meals with the Sitting Room which has a log fire. Heima is a 19th Century cottage with a 21st Century extension. Hilary and Edward have strong family roots in Orkney. You can expect to be hosted generously with a light touch in the quiet beauty of Orkney. The space No matter how long or short your stay, we hope guests will enjoy a sense of home-coming. You will stay in the original section of the old cottage and have your own front door, lobby, private bedroom, bathroom, and a private garden area with seating. Breakfast of locally-sourced and home-made produce is provided in a modern setting. The bedroom has a king-size bed with comfortable seating. There are facilities for making teas, coffee, and hot chocolate, and home-bakes are provided to welcome guests on arrival. The modern bathroom has both a bath and separate shower. Breakfast is laid in the Sitting Room. Guests serve themselves to tea, fresh coffee, juice, cereals, yogurt, pastries, breads/toast, home-made marmalade and jams, honey etc. In the evening, from 18.00-22.00, guests have exclusive use of the Breakfast and Sitting Room. As an alternative to eating out, guests are most welcome to bring in a light supper to eat in the Breakfast Room where the table will be laid for your convenience. The guest entrance has plenty of space for coats, a boot/shoe rack and a small fridge solely for guest use. Wet gear can be left to dry in the air-source heating room and bicycles can be locked away. Should there be a need, arrangements can be made for washing and drying clothes. At Heima there is ample parking with private access to the guest areas. Guest access The postcode is KW17 2HZ. Detailed directions will be sent close to the time of your stay. Heima is in the centre of world-famous archaeological sites. eg. Skara Brae (6 miles), Maeshowe (6 miles), Ring of Brodgar and The Ness (9 miles), Broch of Gurness (6 miles). Heima is close to the village of Dounby (pronounced Doon-be) 1.3 miles. Dounby has a number of important amenities including the Co-Op general store with fuel and food-to-go, post-office, doctors' surgery, pharmacy, hairdresser, Milestone Community Church, craft shop and jeweller. Local hotels with bars serve lunches and dinners: The Smithfield Hotel in the village and the Merkister Hotel beside the Harray Loch. There are plenty of places to have coffee or meals in both Kirkwall and Stromness. From the cottage, step out into hill and lochside walks (Heima is also on the St Magnus Pilgrimage Way) or take a short drive to the world-famous archaeological sites and magnificent coastline. Other things to note St Magnus Way is a new 55 mile pilgrimage route that runs across West Mainland and past Heima's entrance.
