The Columns, a modern day JAMAICAN GREAT HOUSE!

Million dollar views of Caribbean water await you in this elegant villa. Situated on 7 acres, this 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath estate has been a family retreat for 4 generations. Step back in time and enjoy the vaulted ceilings, spiral staircase, cool veranda, and timeless aesthetic that gives this classic villa its charm. Full time staff and our cat will make sure this is truly a vacation while you sip cocktails by the pool or explore beauty of Jamaica from this centrally located piece of paradise. The space "The Columns" is set on 7 acres of beautifully manicured land, filled with all manner of fruit trees and tropical flowers and perched 150 feet above the Caribbean, but just 8 kilometers east of Montego Bay Airport. This central location gives guests easy access to golf, fishing, night life, and shopping, as well as an easy pick up point for longer trips to Negril, Ocho Rios, and other major destinations in Jamaica. ** It is important to realize that we have a cat that lives at the house and it is very affectionate. If you are renting the property you must understand the cat will be present and likely to interact with you ** The villa is two stories tall. The main floor consists of the entrance foyer with a soaring 30' ceiling and sweeping staircase leading up to the second floor. To the east is the Living Room, 24' by 40', where you'll find seating for 12 and a card table for 4. The television with cable is located in this space. The 14' ceilings float above, and with windows to the south, facing the mountains, and the north, facing the seas, the views and breeze are sublime. Through the foyer is the formal Dining Room with seating for 12 at 2 tables. There are 5 double French doors which open onto the porches towards the sea to allow the breeze through. To the west is the less formal Outdoor Dining Room, the location where most guests choose to eat their meals. This informal space allows you to look out to sea and enjoy the colors of the Caribbean, or, at night, the passing lights of cruise ships. To the east of the formal Dining Room and north of the Living Room, you will find the Sitting Porch, 16' by 40', where again the family and most guests will spend their social time. With seating for 9, this is an area in which to relax, read a book, gaze out to sea and have evening cocktails. The Kitchen is found beyond the dining rooms, and the Staff Quarters are located beyond the western side of the house. Up the stairway, you will find 2 bedrooms and the sun porch. Each bedroom in the Great House is about 24' by 40' and each has attached bathrooms. The East Bedroom consists of one king-size bed (a beautiful antique Jamaican bed that sits a little high - there is a step stool to help step up to the bed), one antique queen-size bed, a sitting area along with dressers and desk. There is over 20' of closet space, a double vanity along with tub and toilet. The West Bedroom has 2 double beds, several armchairs and about 12' of closet. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower in place of a tub. Both bedrooms offer views south to Flower Hill and north over the Caribbean Sea. The bedrooms are air conditioned, each bedroom with its own controls, but the nightly prevailing breezes blow through the rooms and keep the bedrooms comfortably cool for sleeping. In the morning you will likely awake to the sounds of green parrots and doves. Step through the French doors at the top of the stairs and you will find yourself on the sun porch which runs the length of the house and affords a terrific view of the sea. Beautiful in the early morning or late in the day, it is an ideal spot to stretch, meditate and quietly enjoy the view and surroundings. The Guest Wing The guest wing sits to the east of the great house and is accessed through the Living Room via a breezeway. There are 2 bedrooms in the Guest House: The North Bedroom is furnished with a king size bed, which is hard to leave in the morning as there is a large bay window offering views of the Caribbean while lying in bed. Also, there are double French doors leading out toward the Pool House. The South Bedroom contains 2 double beds and also has French doors leading to the Pool House. There is one bathroom in the guest wing for shared use by the guests of both the North and South Bedrooms. The oval-shaped pool is approximately 20' by 40' and, due to the slope in the yard, elevated at one end - offering exposure to wonderful breezes and views down over the Half Moon Golf Course. The Pool House sits to the south of the pool and is a shaded area that is an ideal location for lunch or afternoon snacks. The Staff There is the cook, the housekeeper and the grounds person. The cook will work with you to coordinate meals and any special dietary needs or concerns. The staff can accompany you on shopping trips to the nearby stores and markets. The housekeeper will take care of the cleaning of the living space and will also take care of any laundry needs you may have Guest access Guests will have access tot he house, guest house (depending on # of guests) and pool house. Understand that the house staff live on site and have their private quarters. Kitchen access is with assistance of the house cook. Other things to note It is customary for guests to tip the house staff before they check out of the house. A guide to tipping would be $10/guest per day to be divided as you see fit amongst the staff.
