Description

From the perfect location in the Bethel community, set out to explore Waynesville, Canton, Brevard, Asheville, or the Pisgah National Forest! Enjoy coffee overlooking the East Fork of the Pigeon River, then head out to hike, bike, or explore local art, shops, breweries, and scenery. You may not want to leave the back deck or yard at all once you've settled in! Jump in the river or relax in a hammock by the water, say hi to the neighbors, or take a scenic run right from the house. The space Feel like you are "away from it all" while really being close to it all! The small Bethel community is located almost equally distant (10-15 minute drive) from Waynesville or Canton, 15 minutes from Lake Junaluska, and about 20 minutes from Maggie Valley. The drive is usually 30-35 minutes to Asheville or 45 minutes to Brevard or Cherokee. This home is officially in the Pisgah National Forest, and it’s a perfect jump off spot to visit so many western NC locations! Cataloochee Ski Area is 23 miles away and usually around a 40 minute drive up to the slopes. Feel like you are in the woods while still being right off 276, a main artery to all the adventure! It's also about 35 minutes, and two turns, to get on the Blue Ridge Parkway via 276. This home sits right on the East Fork of the Pigeon River on a little over half acre lot. Wake up to the sound of flowing water and chirping birds as you enjoy coffee on the back deck overlooking the river. In summer, you may find us jumping off the rock into the swimming hole or tubing behind the house. Parking is right in front of house, off the road, and not covered. Say hello to the cows across the street, and don't forget to look up at night. On a clear night, the stars are beautiful out here! Enjoy a morning run or walk? Walk out and go left, run to the end of our road and back (scenic river views all along the way), and you'll have accomplished a 5K! Watch for cars around curves, but you probably won't encounter many! If you road bike, ask about local road rides to Canton or Lake Logan/Sunburst area. You can easily connect to many popular local road rides straight from our road! Pick up fixings for a fresh meal from one of our favorite spots nearby: 10 Acre Garden, Christopher Farms, or the Waynesville Farmers Market when it's in season. Guest access You will have access to the entire house, other than the basement used for storage. There is a hammock out back, plus four camp chairs, a fire pit, and two river tubes that you are also welcome to enjoy while you are here! The house is basically 4 rooms: kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and living room. The deck is our favorite bonus room. It is definitely best suited for 1 or 2 adults since there is one queen bed and an open door space between bedroom and living room, but we have a self-inflating, plug-in queen air mattress that can fit two more people and be set up in the living room too. Kitchen has coffee maker, stove/oven, refrigerator, toaster, plates, bowls, glasses, silverware, some basic pots, pans and cooking utensils, and a few basic condiments. You may also enjoy granola bars for breakfast, plus coffee or tea if you desire! Other things to note Post-Helene Update Nov. 2024: Our entire community experienced devastating flooding in late September, but thankfully our area was somehow very lucky compared to so many. As of now, as leaves thin, you can still see a lot of downed trees and flood debris across the river from the back deck, but we were lucky and the house wasn't affected. Local river cleanup is ongoing, but the river view itself is still as beautiful as ever. Internet TV with Netflix and other services available. Also a few local channels from antenna. The connection out here is not super-fast, but hopefully you’re here for the scenery and fun rather than screen time! We installed a brand new HVAC unit in late 2018. So far, in fall or spring’s mild weather, we’ve kept it off and enjoyed fresh air from open windows. If you use heat in winter months, please set thermostat down to 60F when leaving. If you adjust air in summer, please set back to 76F when leaving.
