Double room at Tiko Lodge
Tikondane, is a non-profit, non-political, interdenominational, community-based organisation. Our mission is to fight poverty in Katete. As part of the Centre, Tiko Lodge allows an income to sustain community efforts: all earnings from the guests go directly back into the projects! We offer double rooms inside the Humboldt house, a comfortable, luminous and affordable option, with many African ornaments which are for sale. The rooms are simple and functional, shared sitting and cooking area. The space The room has double bed with mosquito net, towels and community-made cintronella soap. There is a small desk, chair and bamboo shelves with traditional ornaments which are all for sale by Tiko Community Centre. The room is an attached ensuite bathroom. The common space with sofas, couch, table, tv, library and cooking equipment is shared with guests of four other rooms, but you may have it all to yourselves if we don't have other guests staying! Guest access The double rooms in Humbolt house, give onto a garden surrounded by large trees, from which you can see many of Tiko's community buildings. Guests will be given a guided tour of the whole community area if they wish so. 100 m away from Rondavel, Tiko restaurant serves up three delicious meals a day including local traditional delicacies, or if you prefer we also have Western options. The Tiko garden and farm supply the restaurant with organic produce. Tiko Community supple home-made jam and peanut butter, all of which is for sale at the community shop and you can also learn how to make these yourself. There is also a souvenir and craft shop on site. Guests are welcome to get involved in any of the Community activities, a guide is on site during the day to assist guests and offer cultural safaris. There is a variety of Tours and Cultural excursions bookable including a showing of the Ghost Dance which is recognized by UNESCO. Bicycle Hire is available for rent. During your stay Staying at Tikondane is authentic ethical travel. ALL income from visitors and tourism goes straight back into Tiko, so your stay directly helps the people in our community. The Tiko crew will always be about for a chat or advice on local sights. There is a school on site so expect to meet lots of little ones. There is HIV/AIDs counselling daily, our drama club meetings, Tiko Tigers football team training every afternoon and much more!
