Welcome to The Red Barn Retreat! We are so excited for you to come visit our peaceful place. The barn was built in the early 1800’s and we completed its renovation in 2014 and an upgrade in 2020 to include air conditioning in the whole barn and new reclining leather couches. It is very special to our family and we hope it will be for you as well! It is a wonderful spot to relax and refresh and make lasting memories. The downstairs of the barn has a bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, hot plate, and coffee pot. There is a beautiful propane fireplace and a small sitting area. This room can double as a second bedroom with floor mattresses if you request them. The upstairs of the barn has a farm table with benches, exercise equipment, sitting area, theatre, and a large propane fireplace. During the school months, we use the downstairs of the barn for the Red Barn Music Studio two days a week. You will have access to both floors of the barn. We have two Amish-built authentic barn wood bed frames on the comfortable full-size beds to accommodate four people. There is also an extra foam double mattress and a single mattress and a pack and play that can be placed downstairs in the music studio area or wherever you would like. Just keep in mind that there is only one bathroom. In the upstairs, we really enjoy our “theatre” – with the screen, projector, and surround sound. Although we do not have a TV, we have free Wi-Fi, so feel free to watch Netflix (on your account) and/or any of the DVD’s that are in the wardrobe! There are also board games, puzzles, adult and children coloring supplies and books, a dress-up closet, and various fun toys for kids! On the opposite side of the theatre, we have a little gym where the beds are also located. In this area we have exercise equipment – a universal weight station, Schwinn Air-dyne stationary bike, a treadmill, and free weights. These are all available for you to use at your own risk and we just ask that you refrain from allowing children under the age of 13 to use them. A game table that can be made into a Ping Pong table, air hockey, pool table, and table football is also available for you to use. Although we live on the same property, you will have plenty of privacy in the barn. We will be available by text if you have any questions or need anything. Our barn is in a small town at the back of our property away from the main street, so it is quiet. We are within walking distance to a soft ice cream shop (in the summer!), grocery store, post office, four restaurants, a coffee house, three churches, a bank, rails to trails for walking or biking, a park, and a large creek with a boat ramp for canoes and kayaks. We are also just a few short miles from the Appalachian Trail. Our location is also quite convenient if you are interested in visiting central Pennsylvania and some bigger cities close by. We are minutes to Interstate 81 and we have been known to go to Washington, DC for the day – or even New York City, Philadelphia, or Baltimore! And of course, the most common places that people visit are Hershey and Lancaster. All of these places have wonderful things to do! Towels and washcloths are under the bathroom sink. A storage closet in the bathroom houses an ironing board and iron, extra towels, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, and cleaning supplies. We also have coffee, creamer, bottled water, and some extra goodies available in the fridge and under the coffee maker. A private door with a keyless entry provides easy accessibility. Please park next to the wood pile close to the back alley and away from our garage entrance. Since our garage is attached to the barn, you may hear us come and go, and it will be helpful if you park as close to the barn as possible so we can get by your vehicle without disturbing you. If you have more than one vehicle, we ask that the second vehicle be parked on Market Street – the main street in front of our house. We hope you choose to stay with us and will return soon!
