I've been hosting for a very long time and I know what you are going to ask before you ask it usually. The Top 5 questions we get: 1. Do we need to bring firewood? No. You are welcome to collect deadwood from the forest surrounding the cabin for free. We also provide firewood bundles for $5/armload. 2. Does the cabin have pots and pans and linens? Yes, the cabin is equipped with everything you need for basic cooking and has linens and towels. 3. Does the sauna work? Yes! The sauna is available year-round. It is a shared space with other guests on the property and is wood fired. Give us plenty of notice if you would like to use it, so we can get it hot for you. 4. Does the cabin have heat? Yes, the cabin has both propane and electric heat to keep you toasty on even the coldest New England nights. 5. Is there a grill? Yes! The cabin has a propane grill. Ellis has two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with two single beds. The detached bunkhouse has 3 single beds and is available for larger groups in the summer only. The space is newly remodeled and very cozy! Full kitchen with 4 burner stove and oven, refrigerator, and microwave. The kitchen has a table with 4 chairs and a couch that a 5th person can sleep on. There is a house next door, another cabin behind, and a camp trailer that is occasionally occupied across the driveway. See the aerial photos in the listing to get a better feel for the layout. I have been hosting guests on my property for over 20 years. While I really enjoy sharing this space with everyone, there is a bit of hospitality fatigue setting in. Please read below for some information you may or may not know about living in the forest. Our property is a heavily wooded forest with thousands of trees on 7 acres. It has a soul of its own and that's what makes it a delightful place to live. If you are used to living in a city or more urban environment, here are some things to keep in mind. Its DARK at night. There are no streetlights in the forest, and we don't plan to install any. If you are afraid of the dark or it makes you uncomfortable or scared, this is not the place for you. There is no pavement. That means that sometimes there is mud, snow, sleet, ice that will get on your shoes. There are bugs. Insects are part of our ecosystem and we don't spray our property with chemicals. Of course, we clean between every guest, so if you see an insect, it does not mean we haven't cleaned. It means you are in the forest. There is a working horse farm on the property. Trails End Equine Retirement is a 501 c 3 non-profit that cares for elderly therapy horses. We also have our personal riding horses here. So, you may see tractors, trucks, and other equipment on the property. You are always welcome to visit the horses, but please do not touch the electric fence or go inside the paddocks. I try to be as available as I can, however I don't have any staff. So if I don't respond immediately, it probably means I'm driving my kids to school, grocery shopping, caring for the horses or any other part of daily life. If you need instant access to help at all times, please book a hotel. There is a guidebook in the cabin and a ton of information here in this listing. Each photo has a description beneath it. Please check all these resources first if you have a question. Oftentimes, you can find the answer quicker than you can type the question to me. I am happy to answer most questions as quickly as I can, when I can, but please check here first. If you ask me a question that I won't know and that you can look up yourself, I will probably refer you to Google. For example: "How far is your place from Main Street in Philadelphia?" I have no idea! It will take me just as long to look that up as it would take you to look it up. We do not provide fishing poles. We can't even keep our own fishing poles untangled. I don't have time to spend hours maintaining them in working order. There is a Walmart in Lisbon CT where you can purchase them. This property has been used as a vacation getaway since the early 1900's. It's a special place and we are proud to live here and take care of it. We hope you love it and respect it as much as we do. Guest access Guests have private access to the entire cabin and bunkhouse. A short 238 foot walk from the porch leads to the property's private beach which guests are welcome to use. There is a picnic table and multiple fire pits for campfires. Guests are also welcome to use our 10 person wood fired Finnish sauna. The sauna has a lakeside deck and direct access to the water for a dip. The sauna is a communal space shared by all guests on the property. Guests are welcome to use kayaks, canoe, and paddle board included with your stay. We also have a duck paddle boat available dependent on lake conditions. Other things to note Many guests find that they have little to no cell reception here on the lake. (However this is less of an issue now than it used to be) If using the Airbnb App, you can access check in directions without cell reception. We have WiFi in the cabin, so you can get connected as soon as you get inside. The login info is on the table. We have another cabin on the property, one camp trailer (in the summer) as well as two main houses. We have many family members on the property at any given time and all are friendly and happy you are staying with us! Just remember that there are other people living here, so we expect respect for them as far as noise.
