Mt. Home Cabbin - Second Floor
The "Cabbin" at Mountain Home is cozy, comfortable, and hiker-friendly. This listing reserves up to 4 twin beds on the 2nd floor. See '"Cabbin" at Mountain Home B&B' listing to reserve whole building or 'Game Room' or "Cabbin - First Floor" for lower cost listings. Just 120 yards east of the Appalachian Trail. 4 miles from great restaurants and more in Front Royal. Less than 5 miles walk/drive to Shenandoah National Park. Shenandoah River nearby. Breakfast, occupancy and meals tax included. The “Cabbin" is a renovated historic building that was once a log cabin. It now looks like a small brick building, but the dimensions* are still the same, and the logs are still inside the walls. (*If you are over 5'7", you'll need to duck to get in the front door!) The Cabbin has two floors which can be booked separately using this "Cabbin - Second Floor" and the "Cabbin - First Floor" listing. If you'd like to book the entire "Cabbin" for yourself, look for '"Cabbin" at Mountain Home B&B" as a separate listing. We also list on Airbnb four private rooms with private bathrooms in the Main House: Annie's Room, Gardners' Room, Rebecca's Parlor and the Game Room. Our least expensive Airbnb listing for 1 or 2 people is informal but comfortable, with carpeting, a decorative fireplace, locked door and private half bathroom: "The Game Room at Mountain Home". This "Cabbin - second floor" listing is for up to 4 twin beds on the second floor - perfect for an individual or a group of 2, 3 or 4. Although listed as "shared room", we will not put anyone from another group in this second floor space with you. The stairs to the second floor are accessible through the shared kitchen/dining area, right next to the front door. The space has lights and air conditioning (or heating) depending upon the season. Each bed has its own reading light. The small shared bathroom at the top of the stairs, is accessible to people staying on the first floor without going through the upstairs sleeping area. The bathroom is the only room in the building with a door and complete privacy. The rest of the building is in an open configuration. There are floor to ceiling curtains between the first floor sleeping area and the shared space kitchen/dining area. The shared kitchen, located adjacent to the first floor sleeping area, is small but fully functional. For before and after pictures of the (historically named) "Cabbin" and Main House, look for us at: Mountain Home in Front Royal. Those staying in the Cabbin have access to the bathroom on the second floor and the kitchen and dining area on the first floor. The Cabbin has it's own small patio and charcoal grill. You are also welcome to come up and enjoy the Main House, including the patio and fire pit. We are resident at Mountain Home every night we are open for guests. Using masks and from a respectful distance, we greet our guests when they arrive, answer any questions they may have, get their breakfast orders, provide hiking, and local activity suggestions. If needed, we shuttle them to and from town with suggestions on where to eat/shop/find necessary services. We also prepare and serve a hearty breakfast in the morning. We might even provide s'mores around a small outside fire pit on a given night :-). But if guests just want downtime to rest, read or recharge, that is fine, too. We have plenty of books and outdoor resources in the Cabbin and Main House for our guests. We love being close to the Appalachian Trail and an easy walk either north or south. We are just a 4-mile hike to Shenandoah National Park and canoeing, kayaking and rafting are available on the Shenandoah River that goes right through Front Royal. We have rehabilitated the circa 1800 log cabin, now wrapped in brick, and the 1847 historic Greek Revival Style farmhouse on the property into a full B&B. There are 5 other buildings on the property including a garage, chicken coop and meat house which we have rehabilitated and another garage and sheep shed which we are also going to restore. We are happy to provide tours. The property is on the National and Virginia historic registers as "Mountain Home". Guests can hike in from the Appalachian Trail, just north of Shenandoah National Park, or bicycle or drive in and park for free. If you are coming to or from the DC area or Dulles, you can take the Virginia Breeze bus, and we'll shuttle you from and to the bus stop. We can also put you in contact with other people who can shuttle you further distances. You can also leave a car with us and shuttle to a hiking spot ("slack pack"). For those without a vehicle, we provide a free shuttle into and out of Front Royal for lunch/dinner, post office, resupply, etc. There is also a Trolley service that picks up at the Appalachian trail crossing about 1/4-mile from the property from May through October. The Trolley also provides service around town throughout the year. In addition, many restaurants, services and the visitor center are all walking distance from historic Main and Chester streets. If you are hiking the Appalachian Trail (AT), or just travelling light, you'll find hiker-friendly details like boot dryers, linens, blankets and towels, shampoo, creme rinse and soap, hair dryer, shaver, loaner clothes, laundry, WiFi, shuttles into town, breakfast, etc. If you are planning to bring a dog or other pet, please let us know when requesting your reservation. We only allow dogs in the Cabbin, generally 1 dog per night, and there is a dog fee of $5/dog/night plus some extra rules to keep things clean, protect the building, and be respectful of other guests. During the summer months, when they are open, we can shuttle you to the 4H Center for a swim in their pool (their fees are about $5/day). Ask us about the swimming hole, waterfalls and nearby hikes and getting out on the river. Wineries, a meadery, a brewery and fine dining are just down the road.
