Description
Experience the beautiful nature of Telemark and the rich and dramatic history of Rjukan with a stay at old Viola's house from the 1860s. Stay in the midst of high mountains, the Hardangervidda National Park, the steep pastures and lush forests, as well as the Rjukan-Notodden UNESCO World Heritage area, representing crucial sites in Norwegian industrial history and key events from World War II. The Berghei family farm is recently established, but people have lived at the site since the Vikings. The space This charming old lafted house from the 1860s has recently been expanded and upgraded with modern amenities. The old part of the house has steep stairs and lower doors/ceilings than modern standards. The viola house has a new bathroom, private laundry room, kitchen, toilet on the 2nd floor, its own TV room, living room with long table and fireplace, as well as three bedrooms. Here, three families/couples or 8-9 close friends can enjoy the benefits of life while experiencing the rich history of the farm and the surrounding area. The house belonged to Norsk Hydro for many years. Old Viola rented the house from Hydro for many years before it again ended up in private ownership. Guest access The entire house is at your disposal apart from the old basement (seperate entrance). Feel free to explore the surrounding outdoor areas. There are hiking trails and forest roads from the farm to the Hardangervidda National Park, the Krosso Cable Car and Rjukan City Center. A few kilometres up the valley, you will find the Vemork Power Plant, bungee jumping and the Saboteur trails from WWII. Here you will also find Krokan, the Norwegian Trekking Associations first cabin (it recently celebrated 150 years), and the Skinnarbu National Park Center. The other buildings at the farm might be in use or hazardous build sites etc, so please ask the hosts if you want a tour. If they have the time, they will try to show you around. Other things to note This is a running farm, just starting up. The hosts might be busy with farming, construction, animals or other activities during busy seasons. So let us know if you want to help out! This farm is a regenerative farm, so we'll appreciate any food/organic waste from our guests to add to our hot compost bins. By doing this you'll provide fresh food to the local area. Please use the marked bins. Please be careful around the farm animals, especially if you have children, dogs or other pets with you. In parts of the Tinn municipality there are strict rules for leashes (dog restraint), due to the local wildlife. Let us know if you need more firewood, or if there are other essentials missing from the house.
