Cottage on the Creek
Cottage on the Creek
Description
Charming vintage cottage on the Esopus Creek. Craftsman style with original 1930's details and essential modern updates. A short drive to Saugerties, Kingston, Rhinebeck, and Woodstock. Peaceful setting with cool breezes, eagles, ducks, great fishing, swimming, and a boat launch/swim ramp - two kayaks are available for use if arranged prior to your stay. If you are participating in the HITS equestrian events - the location is very convenient and the driveway can accommodate horse trailers. The space My house is one of the original cottages built in the 1930's as part of a community of seasonal houses on the banks of the Esopus Creek. It's located in a neighborhood of modest homes with several used only during the summer months - there is no through traffic since there are dead ends at both ends of the street. Less than 2 hours from Manhattan the house is a year-round retreat with a beautiful stone fireplace and direct creek access. The cottage has been renovated and modernized - without losing its craftsman charm. I have 2 kayaks which, if you sign a separate waiver, you are free to use to explore. It's great to swim from the creek-level boat launch area - or just sit on the dock or deck and watch the boats go by. Guest access You are free to use the entire space including the grill (2 burners) - kayaks if a waiver is signed. If you plan to use the fireplace we must have a phone conversation about it. Other things to note I'm a chronically light sleeper and summer sunrise is accentuated by a very vocal, cheerful bird population - apparently, they sleep really well! Sometimes I turn on my white noise machine for a few more zzzzz's in the early hours to shut out all that chirping....all sleeping areas (both bedrooms and the sun porch) have them in case you are not an early riser. Interestingly, I have no problem sleeping through the occasional sound of the slow-moving train that runs parallel between my neighborhood and Rt9W. It passes infrequently - no regular schedule.....and if it doesn't wake me up then you should not have a problem. I have specifically asked my friends/guests about the train and they say there is something soothing about it and not intrusive... but, in the spirit of full disclosure....and there are always those white noise contraptions to assist. An interesting bit of trivia - one of the first white noise machines was built by a guy using a fan inside a dog bowl!
