Dock Cabin at The Sanctuary Resort

The Dock Cabin provides quick access to your boat so you can be first on the water each morning! Located on a beautiful pine covered Island in the heart of Whitefish Bay, Lake of the Woods you’ll find we have the perfect location for your next family vacation or fishing trip. The Sanctuary Resort offers a relaxing setting in Nature to escape from the hustle and bustle of every day life! The space The Sanctuary Resort is a unique wilderness experience. We have some modern amenities but still embrace much of the old time rustic charm which has been lost in the modern world. In order to promote the good health of our island and the surrounding environment, each cabin has its own spacious and well-kept outhouse with soap and running water. Much nicer than a person might expect. There is a heated shower house with hot and cold water that people take turns using. We also have wifi but most people come here to get away from the world's business, it truly is a special setting. As you relax in your private cabin or enjoy the surrounding old growth forest which makes up our island environment, you will marvel at the sights and sounds of nature. Guest access Guests get to enjoy exploring the island which has hiking trails throughout and a beach. It's a great environment for families wanting a safe and quiet place to relax. You have full access to the on site beach which is only used by the few people who are staying on the island at any one time. The water is very clear and extends out a good ways at a gradual depth. There is a long dock that guests may enjoy fishing from too. Also onsite is a common area where guests may enjoy our library and viewing historic photos of the area. Other things to note When booking over the winter months for ice fishing we require 4-5 days notice in order to accommodate a requests. We try to do things here on the island in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. By doing things this way it helps to preserve our island along with all the birds and small animals that live here like flying squirrels. They only come out at night so are hard to see. We also have several vegetable gardens on the island. There is a 250 gallon reflecting pond with a waterfall and goldfish. The Pond is made from a wide variety of very interesting rocks that would impress a geologist. There is a bench and coffee table at the pond where you can enjoy watching the gold fish. The sunsets here are amazing especially in late August then in September you can possibly see the incredible Northern Lights. The fact that we are far away from town and there is no light pollution, the night sky offers a beautiful display of stars. For anyone interested in astronomy this is a very good place to be.
