Middle Cowden is a charming stone cottage set in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside, perfect for couples, walkers, cyclists and is pet friendly. You can expect peace and quiet, glorious views down to the Pennines, sheep in the surrounding fields and incredibly clear dark skies. The space The cottage itself is cosy, functional but not particularly sophisticated! It has a stone fireplace with woodburner. The kitchen has an electric hob oven and fridge. The garden to the rear has a barbecue and fire pit which guests are welcome to use. Upstairs there's a double bedroom with views for miles. The second bedroom has a very comfy futon/sofabed - please let us know if you would like this making up. There is one parking space directly outside the front door. Though there is good reception there is no wifi... and although the tv's not connected, there is a dvd player with a large variety of films for all tastes; lots of games and a wide selection of books! Guest access The whole house is available to our guests though there is a mezzanine sleeping platform above the second bedroom which is out of bounds as it has a steep ladder up to it! Other things to note With Hadrian's Wall running about 7 miles south; Kielder Water and Forest to the north, this is a great jumping off spot to explore this magnificent county. As well as the many nearby Roman forts and museums there are a variety of smaller castles and National Trust places within half an hours drive. The stunning Northumberland coastline is an hour east. There are lots of excellent walks both in the immediate area and a little further afield ranging from short well marked trips to beauty spots to the Pennine Way which passes near Bellingham. Nearby are several small market towns, the largest of which is Hexham which has a pretty centre, and abbey, a medieval gaol, a swimming pool and cinema. All shopping needs can be met there. In the other direction is Bellingham, a little closer, with a small Co-op, hardware store, and butcher.
