Guest suite in Silver Spring

A friendly neighborhood, 12 minute walk to the metro, and 15-20 minutes walking into downtown Silver Spring (restaurants, theaters,+). Less than a 10 min walk to a brand new aquatic and recreation center. Newly updated, private studio apartment with its own entrance plus a tree-lined back yard. We offer all the amenities for a nice stay in DC/Silver Spring. Active household with children living above. The space The studio is large, with a living, dining, kitchen area (no full-sized oven/range), and a full bath with a stand-up shower. There is access to a washer and dryer plus detergent, but will need to be requested prior to using. The bed is a queen-sized, comfortable murphy bed. An air mattress (nearly queen size), is double high (Inflated size: approx. 78" L x 57" W x 18" H), upon request. This is a walk-out basement apartment, our house was built in 1948, and we are a family with children, so some creaks/groans/thuds/pitterpats should be expected. We are conscious when we have guests and try to keep child-related noise to a minimum. Communicating your general plans for when you plan to be in the apartment is helpful. Heating and air conditioning for the house, including the basement vents, are not controlled within the apartment, but please let us know if you are uncomfortable and we can adjust the thermostat. Inside the apartment, there are extra blankets and a space heater if you'd still like a bit more warmth, or a tower fan if you'd like it a bit cooler. We have timers set on the thermostat based on when we are usually home or out. Home temperatures range from 68-72 F when we are home, and, when we are out, a bit lower or higher, depending on the season. The basement apartment may be a couple degrees lower if it is cold outside, so communicating when you plan to be in the apartment is helpful so we can keep the main temperature comfortable for you. You'll have access to the entire studio apartment and can spend time in the backyard, if desired. We request advanced notice if you plan to use the washer or dryer. If you stay more than 4 nights, we may occasionally need to access the laundry room, which is only accessed through the apartment, and will work out a mutually-agreeable schedule so as not to disturb you. Other things to note There are only 2 adult guests allowed to stay at a time, but small families who have one minor (under 18) child can also stay, though it will be tight. Please note that the apartment is not baby-proofed and we do not stock kid-friendly toys/games. We are required to document the names and ages of all guests, so please be prepared to share via message when making your booking. Parking is not allowed, but please reach out to me and I can share alternate options. The walkway down the side of the house to the entrance is a mix of pavers (3 long steps), stepping stones, and concrete. To get to the side gate, where the path of pavers starts, you have to walk about 5 steps through the grassy lawn. We have motion-sensor lighting on the side path. Around the back, the path goes under the deck and there is a step down just before you arrive at the studio door. The motion sensor light usually kicks on just as you reach the step down, so please tread very carefully. It is helpful to use an additional light to walk down the path at night.
