An airbed may be set up in the living room. A full bathroom comes with fresh towels and essentials. Cozy living room features a well-maintained century-old fireplace, a quaint reading corner and ample seating. Your own subscriptions on a 55-inch television plus abundant reading materials, board games and jigsaw puzzles provide laidback entertainment. Full kitchen has a coffee bar and plenty of cupboards that are stocked with small appliances, cookware and tableware. Guests needing to work, will appreciate the semi-private office workspace. Outdoor porch is the perfect spot to watch the sunrise and enjoy lazy afternoon tea and conversations. Often times, one may hear the clip-clop of hoofs before catching sight of horse-drawn Amish buggies. Cottage has a large fenced yard with 3 separate gates. We enjoy the account of how this stone house built in 1876, was moved twice by mules from the interior of the property to the middle and finally to its current location around 1930. It was renovated over the years and most recently, in 2022. Some historic stone houses have an exterior door in each room for the purpose of fire escape. This unique feature is still evident in this farmhouse. Although exterior doors of some of the rooms are no longer in use, they have been preserved. An antique door lock from the early 1900’s is still in use. The entire farmhouse and fenced yard are used solely for our guests. The farmhouse is located on a working farm. To gain access to the other parts of the property, please contact us first. We are happy to give you a nature walking tour to the hill top and/or down to the river. Appropriate shoes are recommended. As is common in nature any place, caution should be taken during your exploration and all risks (immediate or future, if any, cuts, falls, bites, medical, etc.) are borne by the guests and visitors, with a disclaimer signed. This region is home to 2 universities, some of the world’s best mountain biking trails, spring water lakes, nature parks, and one of the country’s fastest growing area. GENTRY Downtown Gentry, a quiet town has several public services: a fully-staffed fire department and an excellent police force, several businesses, a main library, clinics, pharmacy, shops and restaurants. People come from afar to dine at the Wooden Spoon, a Mennonite cuisine restaurant - expect a queue at this restaurant. A Menonnite cafe, Coffee House across from the Harps grocery store, is a great meeting place. There are also traditional American and Mexican restaurants, pizza joints as well as fast food in downtown Gentry. If you are looking for family entertainment, Hillside Lanes, a bowling center is a stone’s throw from our farm. McKee Foods Corporation (maker of the famous Little Debbie snacks and Sunbelt bars) has a manufacturing facility and a store in Gentry. Check out Camp Acacia, a therapeutic residential recreation summer camp for children and young adults with disabilities. Like many small cities, Gentry has several community events such as July 4 fireworks in the park, Christmas and Homecoming parades, Glow rides, huge "59 Pickin" community thrift and food sales, and sports activities. SILOAM SPRINGS Less than 10 miles away is the larger city of Siloam Springs which houses an excellent Christian higher education institution, John Brown University. Hiking enthusiasts will enjoy the university wooded trails alongside a gurgling creek. The city also offers shopping, entertainment, and several restaurants. Cherokee Casino is just across the border in West Siloam Springs, Oklahoma. BENTONVILLE & METRO CITIES Bentonville, birth place and headquarters of Walmart, is just 20 miles away from us. Visitors who love city life will certainly appreciate the world-class museums, concerts, shops and the large variety of international and local cuisines of Bentonville as well as other attractions of neighboring cities of Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville. A December 2022 Youtube video by Lord Spoda provides an excellent introduction to Bentonville. This city is the mountain biking capital of the world with 30 miles of mountain biking trails. University of Arkansas flagship campus is located in the city of Fayetteville which is also a bicycle friendly destination. PARKS & RESORTS Over an hour away in different directions, one finds Devil's Den State Park and the welcoming hamlet of Eureka Springs with its entire downtown listed on the Registry of Historic Places. Thorncrown Chapel is a 48-foot tall glass structure with 425 windows and over 6,000 square feet of glass. and is located just outside Eureka Springs. Christ of the Ozarks statue standing at 67 ft tall is an imposing monument in Eureka Springs. Don’t miss the rest of the 13 attractions of Eureka Springs like the Passion Play and catch a play at the Main Stage. U-PICK & FARMERS MARKETS For those who savor fresh farm produce, there are several fruit and vegetable farms open during you-pick seasons. (Our blueberry farm is open in June and July and we sell delicious raw honey in July). Open-air farmers markets are open from April to October. Offerings include fruits & vegetables, flowers & plants, baked goods, arts & crafts, textiles, herbs, spices, jams, jellies, etc. Markets also host live music, street performances and kids’ activities. TULSA, OK The city of Tulsa with its many attractions and an international airport, is about 1.5 hour away. BRANSON THEME PARK A 2-hour idyllic scenic drive will take you to the popular tourist spot of Branson theme park attractions and shows in Missouri. Getting around the area is best done via a motor vehicle. Please check with host for possible quick trips to downtown Gentry for a nominal fee. If needed, transportation to or from the XNA airport is available for $25 per trip up to 3 persons with advanced notice or call for a Lyft taxi. Use of the washer and dryer is a courtesy and if they break down during your stay, we may not be able to get them repaired immediately and request that in the meantime, using the new laundromat that is less than 3 miles away in Gentry.
