You may feed the horses carrots and apples from over the fence (no access into pasture allowed), but please cut them to bite size amounts. You may let your dog(s) off leash when in the upper meadow as long as they return to you when called. Your pet remaining on leash provides a safe dynamic with other humans and pets who are also on the grounds. Better to play safe than be sorry. Bringing Pets AND/OR Children under 11 requires that you agree to a damages/security commitment through Airbnb. Please read policy for details. Any damages will be charged. Non-report of broken or damaged items will also receive negative feedback. To the east approximately 26 miles is the Willamette Pass Ski Resort with ski lift, featuring a bounty of downhill slopes for all ages and skill levels, and cross country trails that would rival a cougar's tracks. See (URL HIDDEN) for other interesting and inviting events, features of the area, and activities throughout the year. TRANSPORTATION: Diamond Express, a subsidiary of the Lane Transit District (LTD) bus system provides transportation to all points west to urban growth areas surrounding the cities of Eugene/Springfield. Catch the bus at various locations for $5/day pass. THE GROUNDS: Tired Dog Ranch is 18+ acres of diversity (woodland & working farm with free range chickens, pasture, campsite meadow w/big fire pit, basketball court, shelters and horse shoe pit), orchard, dwellings, lawn & Kitchen and Shower Shelter located right against the National Forest of the Cascade Range with walking and riding trails along the year round creek and into the level and sloped old growth forestland. Each dwelling's rustic elegance combines with convenient amenities and creates a fun mood to set Tired Dog Ranch apart from any other overnight accommodations you will find. Very unique, secluded and relaxing, TDR is nestled outside a quiet community that is yearly gaining speed as an outdoor recreational paradise. This is a farm/forest compound with farm cat (Kitty Bonkers), farm dogs named Simba (fat old border mix) and Buster (young Great Pyrenees) and 4 horses and 1 sheep. Due to Tired Dog Ranch's location (neighboring property is National Forest), wildlife abounds and on rare occasion may be so curious or bold to venture onto the 18-acre property (deer, elk, raccoons, skunk, bear, cougar, crow, eagle, hawk, etc.) so take care to protect yourself and others in your group while outdoors to make your stay safe and sound. I am happy to provide tips of the trade for cougar and/or bear sightings and urge that you keep your kids and pets with you AT ALL TIMES during your stay. Follow the "do's and don'ts" when encountering predator wildlife are posted in all dwellings for your reading pleasure. If that document has been removed, please call for my cautionary tale! Guest access You have access to the 18 acres of lawn, woodland, pasture and Gray Creek, trails beyond the property boundary and your dwelling, as well as the fire pit in the upper meadow and the BBQ's and small fire pits near your dwelling. Provided for your convenience are the following: Firewood, kindling, paper, matches or lighter (for wood stoves in dwellings only), tableware, silverware and glassware, cooking utensils, skillets, pots and pans, fresh bedding and towels, farm fresh eggs, real butter, fresh ground coffee, teas, wi-fi ROKU and DVD's/VHS's, CD's, books/magazines & games! Additional wood for campfires at $5/bundle (includes paper and kindling). TDR strictly adheres to NO FIRES during the restricted summer months as posted at the Middle Fork Willamette Ranger Station just to the west of LaDuke Rd. on Hwy. 58. Other things to note If you are an outdoor junkie and love to challenge the wilderness whether it be on foot, on a bike or on a horse, fish, hunt or sit quietly and listen to the sounds of nature - this is the place to be! On a rainy day, there are games, books, toys, music and movies to lounge and relax with. On sunny days, nature will call you to explore! Keep in mind that the very design of the Yurt, a 1996 Pacific Yurt to be precise, is an insulated glorified dome tent made of heavy water proof canvas and space age insulation panels wrapped around a lattice-work of framing, thick plastic windows velcroed on the outside and shutters that unhinge and drop down to provide privacy and buffer the cold. To access the windows and shutters, a ladder is provided (or I am happy to assist). This dwelling speaks to the more hardy dweller due to the design and need to be active in heating the space during the winter months. In the summer, a skylite can be opened using a telescoping arm, the windows opened using a ladder to access. Consider the wood stove to be like a baby - it needs to be fed, burped, rubbed and otherwise tended to if it is to give you hours of enjoyment. If there is any question of whether you can pass muster with "fire making 101", I've supplied simple instructions. If this element is too daunting (as it is an important part of heating the dwelling during the coldest of winters), I would suggest tackling another "stick built" dwelling at Tired Dog (Cowboy Cabin, Cascadian Cottage) that has better insulation, both a wood stove AND ductless heat/AC, and windows that open and close from the inside. The Carriage Hen House has electric heaters and an electric "wood stove"). DIRECTIONS - can be easy if you don't depend on internet maps. While traveling on Hwy 58, access to LaDuke Rd. is Harbor Drive, a cut through road between MP 32 and 33. Quickly you join onto LaDuke Rd. and head east (turn left). Travel about 1-1/2 miles and once you pass over Grey Creek bridge, turn into the next driveway to the RIGHT (south). There is signage "Tired Dog Ranch" just past a post at the driveway entry with the address 47061 LaDuke Rd. If you've hit gravel, you've gone too far, back up and look to your right. Travel up the driveway to your dwelling (Hen House is first, Celestial Yurt is second, Cascading Cottage is third, Cowboy Cabin is fourth, Campsite with Kitchen and Shower Shelter is through a fenced entrance at south-east end of property). If camping, drive into the upper meadow where a number of campsites nestle against the tree line. Stay on the designated perimeter driveway for access to camping sites. Refrain from driving or parking in the open field. Camping is permitted during summer months April - September), while the upper meadow serves as feeding grounds for the horses during the winter season. If you'd like to "Glamp", take advantage of the "Cadillac Campsite Kitchen and Shower Shelter" (full kitchen services including cook and plate ware, and four hot showers w/dressing areas). There is a security/damage deposit designated through Airbnb if Pets and/or Children under 11-YO are guests. There is an ADDITIONAL CHARGE of $20/per dog (2 dog maximum). Please bring your checkbook to leave the PET DEPOSIT upon arrival. Avoiding to notify and/or pay for your dog to stay gets negative feedback and a bill through the resolution center of Airbnb. There are free range chickens that wander all around the property during the daylight hours nearby the Yurt and Carriage House (that I need alive so I can continue to provide complimentary eggs to all my guests). KEEP YOUR DOG ON LEASH at all times when outside. If your dog comes when called, they can be let off leash ONLY when in the Upper Meadow Campgrounds (during non-camping season), but must be on leash otherwise. If a chicken comes to its demise due to your dog's attack, a fee of $50/chicken is charged through the Airbnb Resolution process. Once in the forest and on a forest trail, it's okay to unleash the sweet beast to run and sniff to their hearts content. DO NOT LET YOUR CHILDREN or DOG CHASE THE CHICKENS or enter the hen house. This disturbs their nesting/laying! Dogs must remain with their owner at ALL times (no exceptions) meaning do not leave your dog in a dwelling alone or tied up outside. If they can't be with you during your vacation at Tired Dog Ranch, leave them in another's care. This is not a boarding facility.
