Duck Cove Farmhouse, Mt. Desert Island
Southwestern side of Mt. Desert Island (Acadia National Park), traditional two-story family farmhouse, beautiful gardens & herb bed, water island view. Close to mountain hikes, naturalist trips, biking, kayaks, sailing. Completely renovated beautiful traditional farmhouse, located on Duck Cove, Blue Hill Bay. 5 night min., wk preferred. Comfortable for family maximum 5, or 6 with small children. 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. TV, highspeed internet, piano, new appliances, private decks and cove. The farmhouse easily accommodates two couples plus two children, or other combos of 4-5 adults. (6 adults too crowded.) All cooking, dining, linens and other essentials are in the well-appointed, renovated farmhouse. Lots of books, maps, ideas for hiking & exploring. Beautiful view from large windows of Blue Hill Bay, child's play house in lower field, lots to do. Well-trained pets are welcome, but I need to charge additional cleaning fee & damage deposit. The entire house is available for families and couples, 5 most comfortable, six if children. Pets welcome at additional charge. Owner has descriptive house brochure, recommendations on local restaurants & places to visit, plus driving directions for guests once confirmed. House renovated for owner's summer use and guests. Air B&B rentals are for 4 nights minimum, or a week preferred. The caretakers -- who live in and are from Maine -- occupy the house during the winter. During the summer rental season, they are on the property down by the water in a separate cabin, out of sight from the main farmhouse . They will welcome you, show you the house, and are readily available for information and help. The farmhouse is on a 6-acre lot that includes the private cove. There are neighbors who love the national park, hiking, nature in houses across the road. People who visit this farmhouse come for the hiking, nature, water, and relaxation. Superb restaurants and shopping are nearby. Most guests have a car to get around the island. There is a public bus (The Islander) with a stop at a campsite within walking distance of the farmhouse. (The bus can carry your bike.) Families who come by car use the bus if different family members have different plans for the day. Guests bring bikes or rent bikes in the next town, which is Southwest Harbor or over at Bar Harbor There is a piano, there are lots of books and children's toys. There is a children's playhouse on the path between the house and the cove. Lots of places to swim, hike, bike, climb, take a kayak, book naturalist walks or tours. The farmhouse abuts portions of Acadia National Park and hiking trails and climbs accessible by bike, car or bus. Garden full of flowers and herbs for guest use in cooking. Hammock and chairs on the lawn. Large decks for outdoor dining.
