Description

Our 200 year old off-grid farmhouse is set in 25 acres of ancient woodland among the dramatic hills of Snowdonia overlooking Cader Idris. Idyllic, peaceful & surrounded by nature. The house is low-tech, with a private water supply & solar panels giving electricity for basic needs - lamps, a fridge/freezer & charging gadgets. Heating limited x2 wood burners & Aga . A magical experience in a spectacular location where you can explore from the mountains to the sea. . The space Due to its remote location, off-grid and quirky nature, we like to share as much information about the house as possible and in return we ask guests to treat this 200 year old property with care. Guests who love nature and appreciate a simple lifestyle, and enjoy peace, will love this property. It will not be suitable for guests who are dependent on modern conveniences. There is no central heating, although ambient heat is provided by an oil-fired Aga and two wood burning stoves. Please note the large four poster bedroom has a walk through concept (it is not totally private, there are no doors to shut it off). Pls see images and discuss with us should this be a concern. A basic solar installation provides enough electricity for lighting throughout the house, a fridge/ freezer, and sockets for charging laptops/ phones/ tablets etc. There are no other large appliance in the property. We ask guest to confirm that they understand fully the limitations of power before booking. Our water supply comes from a natural spring above the house. It is not recommended to drink from the tap. In one of the two bathrooms, hot water is generated by guests themselves, by operating a wood burning stove (with back boiler); we provide x2 complimentary baskets of logs. Further logs can be purchased at cost price of £10/basket. Hot water for the other bathroom is generated by the Aga but it is limited. There is no television or wifi. Mobile phone coverage can be patchy. Should you wish to, guests could bring DVD-enabled laptops or pre-loaded films etc for entertainment as well as blue tooth speakers. The house is secluded and remote, with the last 500m of access via a rough track which may present a challenge for very low-slung cars. It is set in 25 acres of mainly ancient woodland which can be explored and enjoyed. A famous seam of gold runs under the neighbouring fields. There is a well known RSPB woodland within minutes walk, and 1,000 acres of the valley are owned and managed by the Woodland Trust. The renowned mountain biking centre of Coed y Brenin is 15 minutes drive away. The surrounding countryside is perfect for walking. A short distance by foot and by car you will find endless adventures. See Guide The house is thoroughly cleaned between stays. However, before booking, guests are asked to note that, as an old farmhouse, there are exposed beams, lime-washed stone walls, original slate floors and open fires. Cobwebs and dust may appear in spite of frequent dusting and sheep constantly graze outside so you may need to rake up some sheep droppings from the garden should this bother you. Consider it like a retreat, switch off, relax and enjoy. Guest access All areas of the property are accessible except the large barn behind the house clearly signed ' Keep Out' Guests should note that the house is situated in an area which attracts adventurous walkers - a footpath runs through the garden, but is seldom used and only by occasional hillwalkers or the local farmer and his tractor may drive through it. Other things to note Please note we provide you with x2 complimentary baskets of seasoned logs for the wood burners. Further log baskets are charged at cost price £10/basket. For the out door fire pit, we suggest you forage for freely available wood from the woodland rather than seasoned logs which are for indoor use only. Please do not use unseasoned fresh wood in the wood burners.
