Description

New Communities' main campus, Resora - located on the Cypress Pond Plantation property - is a poetic place where meditation and reflection are the heart of the restorative escape from everyday life. Tucked in the midst of a rich water land oasis on a 1,600+ acre farm, this destination is a place where the land becomes a retreat, the mind can relax and the body can refresh. Resora provides an experience of nature while bearing witness to farming innovation and research, and Civil Rights history. The space Are you looking for an intimate getaway?! This sweet studio retreat features beautiful hardwood flooring throughout, living room and dining area comfortable for two and open to the fully equipped kitchen. The screened porch reaches across the full width of the cottage with a view of Cypress Pond. The pond and dock are perfect for fishing, writing, reflecting and relaxing. (Alarm panel has a small camera for facial recognition when disarming the system. It is not a video camera). This cottage is named after Mrs. Rose Mary Mack, a resident of Lee County, Georgia, participant in the Southwest Georgia Civil Rights Movement and member of the Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education. She served as a community organizer for the New Communities Land Trust and on its education committee. In that role, she helped community members understand the concept of the Community Land Trust and encouraged them to join in the settlement of the land and participation in its economic development activities. Guest access This stay also includes access to: --walking trails --a working farm, including pecan and satsuma orchards, and a muscadine vineyard --wildlife and natural vegetation --an 85 acre pond with bass, brem and other occasional wild life. Ospreys have a yearly nesting presence in one of the large cypress trees in the center of the pond. Fishing at the pond is allowed, but gear is not provided by the host. Other things to note Please see our list of featured experiences offering tours of New Communities and local farms including opportunities for fishing, cooking and learning the history of the Albany Civil Rights Movement. Fishing at Resora must be pre-arranged through the tour site. Your hosts are available via email 24 hours a day. Security is onsite during daytime and evening hours and can address any concerns or questions with the property. Airbnb has made a donation to New Communities, in support of its work to empower Black farmers across Southwest Georgia.
