Listen to the frogs sing in the springtime, pick raspberries and blackberries in July, peaches in August, and pears in September, watch birds from the porch swing, relax in the hammock, swap stories around the fire, and gaze up at a starry sky. Our farmhouse is on a quiet, beautiful corner of the Earth and we love being able to share it. It is private and bucolic, but a very short drive to amenities, adventure, and lots of gorgeous outdoor enjoyment. The space The house is situated back from the road on four acres in a rural setting, with only one neighbor visible and not often audible. The property is largely cleared, grassy fields, with a small orchard and a vernal pond, and all accessible with lots of space to enjoy the outdoors, including a swingset and outdoor toys for little ones, firepit, covered front porch, and back deck for dining with gas grill. For late fall/winter reservations, we maintain a flexible cancellation policy in case of bad weather! Full refund up to 24 hours prior to your reservation. The property is a less than 10 minute drive to Confluence, the Yough Lake, and the GAP trail; a 15 minute drive to downtown Ohiopyle; 20 minutes from Nemacolin; 30 minutes or less from other beautiful natural spaces such as Quebec Run Wild Area and Bear Run Nature Reserve, as well as Frank Lloyd Wright's incredible Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob properties; and for skiiers and snowboarders, 40 minutes each from Seven Springs, Wisp, and Hidden Valley. And so much more. We're happy to give tips on some of our favorite nearby hikes and swimming holes if you're looking! It's a perfect homebase for adventure in the Laurel Highlands, or a perfect place to park the car for the weekend and never leave. The bedrooms are comfy with nice, dark shades. Bedroom #1 has a queen-sized bed and electric rocking recliner. Bedrooms #2 and #3 may be best suited to family or close friends if both will be used. Bedroom #3 is a captive room with a full-sized bed that is accessed by passing through bedroom #2. Each bedroom has its own door. Bedroom #2's sofa bed is a comfy pull-out style, which transforms a twin day bed into essentially a king bed with a roll-out attachment. Perfect for kids or flexible adults. Bedrooms all have window A/C units. Downstairs is not air conditioned but has three ceiling fans and lots of airflow and is typically comfortable, even on warm summer days. Bedroom #2 also has an equipped workstation with sit/stand desk, laptop stand, and second monitor set-up with HDMI and Thunderbolt monitor connections, as well as both a wireless mouse and Mac and PC keyboards available. Towels and linens provided, as well as toiletry essentials. Very stocked kitchen. We love to cook! And we love this kitchen. It’s truly the heart of the house with lots of seating and when everyone inevitably flocks there, it’s a perfect place to hang out. In addition to all the pots and pans and knives we think you could want to cook elaborate yummy meals for your family and friends, we also keep a pretty solid spice drawer and stock the kitchen with staples like oils, vinegar, flour, canned goods, and pasta which guests are welcome to. Please do come expecting a home surrounded by nature and all that entails! Bug spray is important to pack and although we do our best to keep nature outside, a 90-year old farmhouse can't always be 100% insect- and critter-proof. If that isn't your cup of tea, might be best to book a different rental. We allow guests to invite up to four adults and four children to camp on the property at an additional cost of $10/person per night. Please specify the number of campers when you request the booking. For bookings in snowy conditions, 4WD vehicles are VERY strongly recommended. The road in can be difficult and the driveway will not be plowed. In high snow, it may not be accessible. Since additional shut-down procedures are required in the cold months, we will need to confirm those details with guests before approving the booking. Guest access Pull-through dirt and gravel driveway on the property, ideal for multiple cars, and even boats, with plenty of space. Driveway historically was the main road, so very solid, even in muddy conditions. Pole barn a short way from the house is accessible for guests and has ample space for any equipment you might be bringing along for outdoor recreation. For electric vehicles, there is space to pull a car all the way in, as well as a 220 plug by the barn door and plenty of 110 outlets depending on what your portable charger requires. For cyclists, there is also an A-frame storage stand, repair stand, and pump. Guests are welcome to use the washer and dryer in the basement of the house. Other things to note Water on the property is spring-fed and well-filtered with a whole house multi-stage particulate and activated carbon filter with UV light sanitization in the basement. Occasionally the pressurizer pump has a hard time keeping up and water pressure in the shower or sink may drop a bit for a few minutes, but usually will kick back up after not long. Bedrooms are located on second floor. Bathroom is located on first floor.
