Other things to note The city of Iglesias has always been known for its mining activity. Today its mines constitute an industrial archaeological heritage recognized by UNESCO. Iglesias is known for its countless churches. We recommend visiting the cathedral of Santa Chiara, dating back to the thirteenth century, but also the churches of the Madonna delle Grazie and San Francesco, with the convent dating back to the sixteenth century. Of particular interest are the Museum of Mining Art and the Museum of Machines, containing large mining machines. The various mines, including Monteponi, San Giovanni and Masua, can also be visited with a guide. The naturalistic complex of Monte Marganai, a forest that preserves beautiful flora, is suggestive.
