The Bothy: Cosy Cottage with Amazing Mountain View

Description

The Bothy is the perfect combination of romantic, cosy charm and truly inspiring mountain views. Nestled alongside the pine woods of Llangattock Mountain and within the Brecon Beacons National Park it is perfectly situated for exploring the area. - Entire cottage - Hot Tub: Wood-burning Ofuro-style - Free Parking - Enclosed patio garden - Pets welcome - Fireplace - Mountain views - 2 miles from Crickhowell - Beautiful hiking routes on the doorstep. - Washing Machine The space The Bothy is a newly renovated, detached stone-built cottage with an enclosed dog-proof patio terrace to the front. Glorious views all around but very private and not overlooked. Located about half way up Llangattock Mountain, alongside mixed pine and deciduous woodland, with little smallholding meadows at it's feet and the dramatic limestone escarpment of Craig-y-Cilau National Nature Reserve behind. Inside, the space has a light and airy feel owing to the full-height glazed wall to the front, making the most of the amazing mountain view. Open-plan living, kitchen and dining area with king-size bed and shower bathroom, all on the same level and under-floor heating throughout. The inglenook fireplace, original beams, antique furniture and vintage, cosy style makes it a real home from home. The surrounding countryside hosts Craig-y-Cilau National Nature Reserve. Part of the abandoned 18th century quarry, this imposing amphitheatre of limestone cliffs and scree slopes offers refuge to a variety of rare alpine flora and fauna. From the old horse-drawn tramway, take in the visual tonic of the sweeping Usk Valley views, then explore the wooded dells and groves, pitted with bluebells in spring and awash with Hawthorn blossom in early Summer. Dulcet little waterfalls, concealing cave entrances, give protection to the Lesser Horseshoe bats snoozing within and add a lyrical interest to the pervading peace. Flycatchers, warblers and woodpeckers dot about the woodlands and buzzards, hawks, kestrels and red kites soar the skies above The Bothy. At dusk the various species of owls offer up an enchanting nighttime commentary which echoes faintly along the soundboard of the limestone crag. With the intense dark of the mountain sky, stargazing is a magical experience here. Whilst summer holds obvious appeal, the autumnal months are very special at The Bothy, when the sprawling deciduous woodlands and larch brakes show off their stunning pallets of copper, ochre and brazier red at the close of the natural year. It is also the season of mists or "Dragon's Breath" as it is locally known, which can only be appreciated from above. Curl up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate and watch as the valley slowly fills and empties with the moist silvery-grey breath of the Great Welsh Dragon. The Bothy is perfect for romantic breaks, relaxing retreats, hiking adventures or longer-term stays working away in the natural tranquility of the Welsh mountains. Guest access Guests have the entire building and patio terrace to themselves. Closest neighbour is about 100m away down the hill. Other things to note Check-In: 3pm Check-Out: 10am PARKING: Free private parking (One car, possibly two small ones) right alongside the cottage. LOCATION: The Bothy is located about half way up Llangattock Mountain. Hillside road is very steep in parts and has no street lighting. Smaller engine cars will struggle in winter weather. INSURANCE: Please note, the Bothy is in an upland location so we strongly advise guests to purchase travel insurance for bookings over the winter months should there be heavy snowfall/road closures etc. HOT TUB: The hot tub has a wood-burning heater so guests will need to bring firewood if they'd like to use it during their stay. We do fill it warm on arrival which significantly cuts down on heating time. TODDLERS/INFANTS: Please be aware that The Bothy has the normal array of potential hazards for toddlers and crawling babies. The Patio is stone, has steps, terracotta pots etc. The Living room has a hearth ledge and working fireplace etc. Little ones cannot be left unattended. I do not provide baby kit such as cot and high chair, only because parents seem to prefer their own baby items. PETS: Dogs welcome but please keep them under control. There is an outside tap and hose for cleaning mucky paws and coats, with old towels provided. No furry chums on the bed or sofa, please. WIFI: Rural 4G Mobile hub which can be a little slow from time to time. KITCHEN ESSENTIALS: The Bothy kitchen aims to minimise packaging waste so all pantry essentials are stored in freshly-stocked, glass clip-top jars. MOUNTAIN BIKES: The Bothy has a lean-to storage shed in which bikes can be stored out of the rain.
