The space * Please read ALL of the details before booking, especially under the “Rustic Experience” notes. This is a VERY unique stay and set-up that requires guests to walk outside down a pathway to utilize the bathroom and kitchen. Please read carefully so there are no surprises! Thank you :) * ***NEW BATHROOM & KITCHEN AS OF SEPTEMBER 2022*** We have just added a kitchenette inside of the yurt, as well as a brand new bathroom located directly on the yurt deck, making this space more accessible for folks with mobility issues and a much cozier, tranquil and private experience. T H E S E T T I N G Step outside and you’re in a high desert paradise, at 6,000 feet elevation in the Chama River Valley. Step inside the 24’ Yurt and marvel at the Central Asian decor, craftsman style with stunning woodwork details. The property is more than an acre, but it borders the Carson National Forest, so it feels much larger, and directly next to public land with great hiking. There is a well-equipped kitchenette (two burner electric stove, microwave, toaster oven, everything you need to cook), and coffee & tea supplies. The new, full bathroom is located steps from the front door of the yurt on the deck and gives stunning views of the surroundings! Please note that your hosts Erin & Mehedi live in the house in the front. The yurt is set above and behind the main house, with a privacy fence in between -- it gives a feeling of privacy and seclusion, without being totally remote! You may or may not see us, but you will very likely see our good will ambassador Osa the dog, who loves to greet all the guests. S L E E P I N G A R R A N G E M E N T S The yurt has a Queen memory foam mattress, a twin bed and a comfortable full size futon couch (with memory foam topper) to sleep. The Yurt can accommodate up to 4 people comfortably. We are happy to answer any questions you have about the set-up, and we encourage you to read our reviews to get a better idea of this truly unique and unforgettable accommodation experience! A R U S T I C E X P E R I E N C E *This is a rustic experience and not ideal for guests with mobility issues or guests who are uncomfortable with keeping a wood burning stove going for heat in the middle of the night during colder months (late October-March/April).* Why we call this a "Rustic" experience: 1. We have a rural septic system. All toilet paper must be discarded in the covered bin provided. Absolutely NO urinating on the property anywhere other than the toilet. 2. The Yurt can run hot in the summer months, especially June, July and August. Windows can be opened to provide ventilation, but please be aware that in the heat of the day (between 12-5pm) it can get very warm in there. The pergola does provide great shade during the day outside. It is advised for guests to plan day excursions during the heat of the day (Abiquiu Lake and the Rio Chama are very close by and great for cooling off!). 3. In colder months (October-April), most guests will heat the yurt with the wood burning stove. We provide wood and kindling throughout your stay, however you'll be required to feed the fire every 1-2 hours throughout the night to keep warm and cozy. We also provide space heaters to keep the chill off, if you prefer not to wake up and stoke the fire throughout the night, however it will be cold with just a space heater, especially on nights with below-freezing temperatures. Again, this is rustic and part of the experience. If you are highly sensitive to or uncomfortable with the cold, please consider booking the Yurt at a warmer time of year (May-September). We do not advise folks with sensitivity to smoke smell to stay during the colder months. 4. Rural living is rustic! There is wind! And dust! And sometimes small critters! You must put ALL food away in the bins provided or you will invite mice. We pride ourselves in taking great care of our guests and this truly magical space, but if you're looking for a five star resort type of experience, this might not be the place for you. Most of our guests leave with a very memorable experience, and many return! If there is anything we can do to make your stay extra special, please let us know. Guest access This is a cozy and truly unique place to call home while you explore the surrounding areas of Ghost Ranch, Plaza Blanca, the Rio Chama and Abiquiu Lake. Please note that there is no river access on the property, but the river is accessible by car less than 5 minutes away. We supply fresh ground coffee, green and black tea and drip coffee maker. We are located 1.5 miles off highway 84 on County Road 0155, on a well-maintained dirt road, which is in the process of being paved. Low-clearance/2WD cars should have no problem on this road, and most other cars should be able to make it. Other things to note *Sleeping Arrangements* 1 Queen Bed (sleeps 2), 1 Twin Bed and 1 Full futon couch with memory foam topper. The kitchen has a small fridge, with two electric burners and a toaster oven. There is no oven. We have a TV (not connected to cable or internet) -- with a VCR and a handful of old VHS movies from the 80s and 90s. There are also a handful of board games and puzzles. We use only natural cleaner for the floors and surfaces, and natural, non-scented laundry detergent for the linens. Please make your reservation with the number of people who will be sleeping on the property. Do not show up with additional guests unless you have reached out to us ahead of time (before check in day), or additional fees will be charged.
