Description

Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place to stay. Other things to note History of Llueves and King Fabil I think it's a great place to live. Surrounded by nature and simple people. A place like few others. Favila or Fáfila, King of Asturias (737-739) was the second monarch of the Kingdom of Asturias, and succeeded his father, Don Pelayo, on the Asturian throne. He took the name of his paternal grandfather, Duke Favila. He preserved his kingdom thanks to Arab revolts and dissensions. He succeeded his father in 737. Favila married Froiluba. On the tombstone of the Church of the Holy Cross in Cangas de Onís, reference was made to the two daughters of Favila, Fainia and another daughter who was a nun in the Monastery of San Salvador de Oviedo. Favila ordered the construction of the church in honor of the Holy Cross, where he placed for his guard the oak cross, the Cross of Victory, with which his father Pelayo had won, as stated in the Chronicle of Alfonso III, Rotense version: "basilicam in honore Sanctae Crucis miro opere construxit". Restored by the Marquises of Valdés, this temple suffered damage during the civil war. However, the tombstone of its foundation is still preserved: "May this church be pleasing to Christ for the trophy of the cross, which his servant Favila built with his proven faith, with Froilubia his wife and his children, who by your merit, O Christ, have fulfilled grace and after this life eternal mercy", dated in the year 739. After his death, the body of King Favila, according to the chronicler Ambrosio de Morales, was buried in the church of the Holy Cross. Under the slab was buried the marriage with their children although the remains of both spouses are not preserved today. It was back in 739 when Favila went into the forests of Cangas to indulge in one of his hobbies, hunting. He died on the hunt, being struck by a bear due to imprudence in the second year of his reign. This is how the famous Albeldense Chronicle recounts it: "Iste Fafila levitate ductus, ab urso est interfectus". From this legend comes the popular Spanish saying, "espabila Favila, que viene el oso" (wake up Favila, the bear is coming). This happened according to tradition in the place where the current village of Llueves is located, on a mountain, in the vicinity of Cangas de Onís. Here is a rock with the inscription that points to this place as the scene of the death of King Favila by the claws of the bear. The town of Llueves, a town with the category of "Place", belongs to the Municipality of Cangas de Onís, Autonomous Community of the Principality of Asturias. It is located above the town of Cangas de Onís, 2 km from it. Getting to know Llueves in person is wonderful, and it is possible to do it comfortably.
