Overlooking the twists of Bland Creek and its surrounding marsh, the guesthouse sits on 10 acres of wooded land, where wildlife is part of everyday life. Eagles overhead, fish jumping in the creek, deer in the marsh, and owls at night. The property is a Certified Wildlife Habitat through the National Wildlife Federation. That means our property has been recognized for sustainable practices that support local birds, butterflies, and wildlife. A portion of each stay is donated to the National Wildlife Federation's conservation efforts. What Guests Loved: - Immaculately clean: Frequently described as spotless and one of the cleanest Airbnbs guests have stayed in. - Quiet, private setting: A long private drive, peaceful woods, and water views create a true retreat. - The screened-in porch: Often called guests’ favorite “room” for coffee, reading, birdwatching, and sunsets. - “They thought of everything”: A truly well-stocked kitchen, clear labels and instructions, quality bedding, and laundry. - Warm, responsive hosting: Clear check-in, fast communication, and a detailed local guidebook with great recommendations. - On-property experiences: Kayaking, fishing, firepits, hammocks, and multiple outdoor seating areas—many guests say the property itself is the destination. The Layout The Bluebird is a two-bedroom, 600 sq ft apartment with a private keyless entry and stairs leading to the second floor. *Living & Kitchen* Open-concept living room and kitchen with oven/range, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, large pantry, and full-size washer and dryer. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, bakeware, cookie sheets, cutting boards, utensils, and spices. Ample plates, bowls, and cups are available. A Kuerig sits on the counter, stocked with different brew options in the tray underneath. Sugar packets and creamers are provided. The living room includes a couch, a 40” Smart TV, high-speed internet, and COX cable programming. The blue ottomans store extra blankets and games. There is a selection of reading material along with a fun retro video game with some old-school favorites. The TV can be backlit with a remote, providing nice mood lighting to the space. There are two comfortable swivel chairs in the apartment that can be moved wherever extra seating is needed. This open-concept area also features a four-person dining table and a large pantry with ample storage that houses the washer and dryer. In the large pantry, we store a toaster, blender, mixer, and 4-cup coffee maker, grilling tools, and flashlights. *Bathroom & Bedrooms* The primary bedroom features a king bed, two closets, and a 40” Smart TV, located off the main living area. The mattress is a Dream Cloud luxury firm king-size mattress, with a foam mattress topper and luxury linens. Blackout curtains are on every window in the bedroom for privacy and sleeping in. Extra blankets are available in the closet. There is also a fold-down desk for a convenient workspace. High-speed WiFi makes remote work a breeze, and you can stay connected as much as you want during your trip. This room provides direct access to the balcony through a sliding glass door. The second bedroom is accessed through the bathroom and features a full-size bed in a cozy sleeping nook. Please note that this room has a narrow 16-inch-wide door, sloped ceilings, and no windows, making it best suited for children or guests comfortable with smaller spaces. We believe in clear expectations so you can book with confidence. To make it fun, we have added a One Fire Galaxy Star Projector with unique wallpaper to bring the outdoors in. There is a TV in the room, set up to log in to all your favorite streaming services. There is a full bathroom with a dual-sink vanity and a walk-in shower. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a small selection of toiletries are available to guests. Hair dryer and 100% Cotton Turkish Towels are stored under the sinks. *The Screened-In Porch* A standout feature of The Bluebird is the private, 200 sq ft, fully screened-in porch, accessible from both the living room and the primary bedroom. It includes a four-person dining table and conversation seating, with beautiful views of Bland Creek and the surrounding woods. Many guests describe it as feeling like a “treehouse.” *Outdoor Amenities* - Floating dock (shared) for fishing and kayak launching; moves with the tide for easy access. You can tie up your own private watercraft at the dock, but please contact us directly for more information. - Kayaking & fishing on Bland Creek, with a 15-minute paddle to the York River - Fire pits: a chiminea on a private creek cove, plus additional shared firepits around the property. One shared fire pit is at the point overlooking Bland Creek, and the other is a gas fire pit next to the boat dock area on the marsh. Dry firewood and fire starting materials are free and available to all guests. - Pool rental (seasonal): In-ground saltwater pool available to rent for $25/hour or $100/day, open Memorial Day–Labor Day. The in-ground saltwater pool is available to rent during your stay for private use. When you reserve the pool, it is exclusively yours—no sharing with the hosts. The pool is set back in a secluded area of the property, surrounded by mature trees, creating a quiet and private experience. This approach allows us to guarantee guests dedicated pool time while preserving hosts' privacy during use. The pool area also features a wood-burning fire pit that guests can use when renting the pool. - 10 acres to explore: scenic viewpoints, remarkable sunsets, and dark skies with clear nights that even show the Milky Way. *Location* Downtown Gloucester: 15 minutes away with a charming Main Street, local restaurants, and farmers' markets. Hike and kayak at Beaverdam Park, or discover the scenic trails, waterfront views, and wildlife of Machicomoco State Park. Gloucester is known for excellent fishing, kayaking, boating, wildlife viewing, and scenic coastal landscapes Yorktown (just 25 minutes away) offers the historic Yorktown Battlefield, the scenic Riverwalk Landing, the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, Yorktown Beach, waterfront dining, and beautiful views of the York River. Williamsburg: 45 minutes away, and is home to Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Water Country USA, Jamestown Settlement, the historic Governor's Palace, and the shops and restaurants of Merchants Square. Guest access We want our guests to explore and enjoy all that this property offers. Guests will have private access to the Bluebird apartment. Guest will have shared access to the dock, kayaks, firepits, and the wooded 10 acres of the property. Other things to note All guests must sign a liability waiver to use any amenities provided at The Bluebird Guesthouse. The link to the waiver will be sent to the booking guest after booking through an AirBnb message. The guest is responsible for sending the waiver to all adults who will be staying at The Bluebird. Each adult must complete their own waiver and a waiver for any accompanying minors. Use of the amenities will be prohibited until all members of the party have completed their waiver. The size (indoor 600 sq ft, screened porch 200 sq ft) and setup of the Bluebird makes it perfect for two guests or small families. Please note that the apartment is located on the second floor, so guests will have to walk up a flight of stairs for access. ** Please note that the guesthouse is accessed through a flight of stairs. As hosts, we can interact with guests as much as you want. We also live on the property, and we truly love having the chance to share the space with others. We want others and to create memories that will last a lifetime. We hope to build lasting relationships with guests and that many come back to stay with us again. Guests should be comfortable and open to seeing us on the property during their stay. A primary residence is next to the guesthouse. In addition, we have a friendly, curious dog named Penny, who will stop by to say hello during your visit.
