Description
Far from the madding crowd…. Newly renovated & part of a still working farm built for the Duke of Westminster in 1852, The Barn is light, spacious & stylish. Exceptionally furnished, equipped to a very high standard & with two bedrooms, two bathrooms & a fenced, private garden, everything is here for a perfect rural retreat. The Barn sits alongside, but completely separate from, the old farmhouse, so if you should need anything then your host, Frankie, will be able to help. The space The Barn is newly renovated, bright and airy. All the rooms look over the private garden with views across the fields to the hills beyond. There is a large, well-equipped kitchen/diner with everything you’ll need from SMEG fridge to Nespresso machine. The sitting room has Loaf sofas and a smart tv. These two rooms are in the middle of the barn with the bedrooms at either end. The ceiling of the master bedroom is open to the roof with beautiful exposed beams. Furnished with an incredibly comfortable, handmade, super king size bed, beautiful, blackout lined velvet curtains and a quirky mix of antiques it’s a really special space. The second bedroom is more compact but offers a lovely double bed and en-suite shower room. The anteroom between the sitting room and master is where you’ll find the single bed, which can be made up for a fifth guest or should you prefer not to share! The bathroom, which has a stone free-standing bath and large shower, is off the anteroom. You can star gaze from the bath through the velux window in the roof! The garden is mainly lawn with a mature crab apple tree. One side is a beautiful rose hedge, another is edged with a high beech hedge (you may well hear the hens just beyond, but fear not, no cockerel!), and then there’s the little vegetable patch. Currently planted with beans, raspberries, salad and courgettes, what will be available to pick will depend on when you are visiting. There’s a table and benches for al fresco meals, a BBQ in the shed (which also has room for bikes or pushchairs), parking for 3 cars and unlimited peace, quiet and fresh air. Guest access The Barn and its garden are for your exclusive use. The postman and delivery drivers may come through on the way to the main house. Once a week the gardeners and/or Frankie will come over to keep things in order, usually on a Wednesday. Other things to note We have two dogs, a cat, chickens and teenagers! The Barn’s garden is not accessible to any of these except the cat, but you may be aware of them when they are in the farmhouse garden. We are next to a working dairy. I love the rhythm to the day of cows coming up and down from the fields for milking. Cows are part of life here….
