These tiny biting insects are barely visible to the naked eye, but their bites can be very annoying. The bite of a sand bites is actually a sting. The effects can be felt several hours after being bitten and are not harmful to human health. A small reddish or white welt, about the size of a freckle is a sure sign you have been bitten. The best way to avoid being bitten is to spray with repellent when you are outside. They are most active during the mornings and evenings.
