Description
Looking for a cheap, cool spot to pitch your tent, park your van or camper—-all while making a difference? Look no further! When you stay at Misfit Mountain Animal Rescue you are one of five camping spots that help support our 501c3 animal rescue. From pigs, to cats, sheep, and puppies—-we do it all here! For more information check out our website. Your campsite comes with a fire pit/grate and picnic table just along the creek that splits the property in half. Only sites 1/3/4 have electric. The space There are five camp sites (a tiny house and camper) spread out over 5 acres of the property. Each camp site comes with a fire ring, grate, and picnic table. Campsites 1, 3, and 4 have 30 amp or 110 Hook ups to accommodate either campers, trailers or rvs. If you don’t need electric then sites 2/5 are a few dollars cheaper. There are two porta potty’s for restroom purposes. Dog poop bags and trash cans are provided as well. There is an off grid outside shower (only available from March until October) and a local creek beside the camping spots where you can wash dishes or cool off with your pup. If you need to shower and your reservation is outside of those areas there is a Pilot in Waynesville on Crabtree Rd. with showers. There is an electric charging station at the beginning of the property behind the muraled animal clubhouse for sites 2/5 without electric. Wi-Fi is available on the property. We do not have access to water to fill your tank up or a black water emptying tank. The BP right before you head down our road offers an outdoor water pump spicket for free. A property manager lives on site and can help you with any issues or questions. He’s located next to site 1 and is name is Kevin. Wood is restocked every weekend as first come first serve. We now have a community fire pit where you can congregate with other campers and socialize. Please visit the listing rules. Noise: We are located beside highway 40 so you can expect traffic noise, as well as farm animal and domestic animal noise on the property. Though there is traffic noise it’s a quite relaxing and private spot. Wait til you see the summer fireflies or deer! Animals are kept separately on the property or within an electric fence that is labeled, but animal feedings and tours can be arranged for a donation. We are just 20 mins to Asheville, 15 minutes to Waynesville, one mile to the grocery, 30 mins to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail, 9 minutes to the new Chestnut Mountain Park and Off Road Bike Trails, and 45-1hr to the Smokies and Gatlinburg. All pets are welcome but they must be leashed or under control of the owner as you might see other animals on hikes throughout the property. You are free to roam the property with your animal on foot but please do not enter any gated areas (pig pen). If your site doesn’t have space for a hammock you can move to other locations throughout the property to find some trees as long as it’s not at another site that is rented. If you aren’t bringing an animal and want to check to see if we have a foster you’d like to take out for the day we can prearrange that with a heads up. Please check out our website if you are looking to adopt. Please note that if it’s raining during your stay there is little we can do so please do not dock US points for situations out of our control. If you are looking for the Hyatt of camping, this isn’t it. However, we are cheap, clean, and at an easy and accessible location. We just started a year ago and we are a continuous project always improving. Please keep this in mind when completing reviews and always share feedback privately so we can continue to improve with each stay. Know that our space isn’t fancy but when you stay at Misfit Mountain you do so for the animals who need it the most. Fires: Please look up Haywood county fire report to check for fire bans. There is a fire bucket at each campsite to use to scoop water from the creek should there be any safety issues or if you need to extinguish the fire before leaving. In addition there is a water cooler next to the porta potties with a fire extinguisher. Guest access There are signs that will direct you to the camp sites as well as numbers on each post. There is one gravel parking spot next to each campsite. If you have more than one car you can park in the gravel overflow lot next to the pig pen. The road in is gravel and around to each site is gravel. Please stay off the grass to avoid rutting. Feel free to wonder the property to see the pigs and chickens or find downed wood. The pigs love leftovers and you can grab some eggs from the chickens…But be sure to lock their nesting box up. From the shipping container over to the barn area is all our property. The shower is next to the pig pen. The charging station is next to the shipping container. Be sure that your animal is leashed if it would attack our pigs or chickens The pigs are in an electric fence area but it would not deter an aggressive dog. Feel free to make a trail down from your campsite to the creek to cool off. You can also access the creek from the opposite bend around the pig pen road. Other things to note No parties. No pooping at site (we have a porta potty for that)-if we find poop it’s a 50 dollar fee! Please clean up your dogs poop- there’s a bag dispenser next to the human porta potty. No more than four people per site. Unless prior approval. Dogs must be under control. Burn paper trash/ recycle others at site. Fires must be kept only in the fire ring provided. Fires must be extinguished before leaving site. There are buckets hanging next to the porta potty and a creek by each campsite. You can use the firewood available beside the pig pen or fallen wood on the property for your fire ring but please don’t cut any live trees down. Wood is first come first serve so feel free to bring your own if you don’t feel like scavenging.
