Description
Nestled in the rural village of Fittleworth, Wishing Well Cottage is the perfect getaway right in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The cottage is newly renovated with many of it's beautiful original features restored. Snuggle up in front of the log fire with a hot chocolate or sit in the large private garden with both covered and open air seating areas, where you can toast marshmallows on the fire pit or sip a glass of wine. A walkers paradise, it is surrounded by natural beauty. The space The cottage has been lovingly renovated by my husband and I and has had many of its original tudor features uncovered and restored. It is the perfect getaway for singles or couples who want to unwind for a retreat into nature. The cottage is filled with original charm from its wooden beams and exposed brickwork and flint, but we have paired this with a contemporary twist to ensure you have all your mod cons and stay in comfort. The lounge has a dining table for 2 and a beautiful fireplace with a wood burning stove. Wood for the fire is kept stocked for your use, and on longer stays we can be contacted to deliver more should you need it. There is an HD TV and wifi as well as books, playing cards, and some games. The small but perfectly formed kitchen has been newly fitted and has everything you need. Pots and plans, dinnerware, cutlery and glasses are provided. There is a full size electric fan oven, 2 ring electric hob and a fridge freezer. We provide coffee, tea and sugar. The bedroom has a comfortable double bed with linen provided and a wardrobe with hangers for your convenience. There are both curtains and a blackout blind. There are plenty of sockets for chargers, hairdryers etc. In the landing you will find a little reading snug with armchairs and a coffee table for those lazy holiday mornings. The bathroom is light and airy and has a newly fitted shower, loo and sink, and there is a washing machine in the cupboard which can be used by guests. We provide hand soap, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner as well as towels. The garden is a haven for whiling away the hours. Access is up 20 steep brick steps which are shared with our lovely neighbour Suzanne you will find the gate for no.3 which leads you to the large private and secluded garden. The garden has 3 seating areas, one large pergola for catching the sun in comfy reclining chairs, a fire pit with log store and seating, and an undercover pergola with a table where you can sit and dine even on a rainy day. The garden is lit at dusk and lights are timed to go off at midnight so you can enjoy its beauty into the evening. We have made lots of areas in the garden for nature to thrive, from the pond to the wildflower areas so birdsong fills the air, and we have regular visits from a friendly pheasant. Blue tits nest in spring and we have set up a live camera so can watch them on the TV indoors. Tealights hang in glass baubles in the trees to create a magical ambience and the garden is a real retreat from it all. The property itself is not set back far from the road through the village as it has no front garden. The property is also single glazed so you can expect to hear some road noise. There is a super pub called The Swann Inn just down the road, and plenty of local pubs locally Guest access You have private use of the whole cottage and garden. Steps to the garden entrance are shared with number 2 and we ask that you keep all gates shut as our neighbour has a friendly but inquisitive dog. If you or your dog would rather avoid him, the garden can also be accessed via the side passage. Please note that there are steep steps both inside and outside which make this unsuitable for guests with mobility issues. I like to leave guests in peace to enjoy their stay but live only half an hour away and can be on hand should there be an emergency. My husband and I are happy to communicate with you during your stay if you have questions. Other things to note There is a bath in the entrance to the garden where muddy dog paws can be hosed off if necessary and we provide doggy towels. We only allow one dog, and ask that dogs are not allowed on the bed or sofa. Dog bowls are provided. Your dog must not be left unattended in the cottage or garden at any time and we expect guests to clean up any dog poop from the garden. The cottage has allocated parking just over the road in Sandy Lane. Number 3's space is marked with a wooden sign. Being a very old cottage some ceilings are low. Particularly tall people may find the shower does not have much head room!
