Description
Two bedroom mid-century cabin with a labyrinth for your meditations in the front yard. Plenty of Catskills charm with knotty pine walls, two desks for work or writing, window AC units, and wood stove. Front deck overlooks labyrinth, with hammock and seating area for morning coffee and contemplation. Fenced backyard for pets and kids, plus picnic table and and pollinator garden. Part of a bungalow community on the Esopus creek, just one mile out of downtown Phoenicia, 20 minutes from Woodstock. The space Accepting reservations again for the first time since 2020! If you’ve stayed here before - there’s a new paint job, fresh hardwood floors, new decks, a ramp, a new driveway, and a labyrinth and a fire pit in the front yard! The house was built in 1946 during the mid-century Catskills boom as a seasonal cabin and has been lovingly revived to mix awesome retro magic with contemporary colors and comfort. Located an easy mile from the town of Phoenicia (recently highlighted as a prime destination by the New York Times, Vogue, and Budget Travel) and a two-minute walk to the Esopus Creek. The cabin has gorgeous knotty pine walls throughout for that rustic feel, but has been updated to keep it cool in the summer (window AC units in both bedrooms and one in the common area) and cozy in the winter (a wood-burning stove and new furnace). The house is 800 square feet with fast wifi, two bedrooms, a fenced in backyard for your kids, dog, and cats and free bikes for you to ride into town. The house has a well-equipped galley style kitchen with new appliances and cookware and a window overlooking the backyard, plus a small dining area that seats four, comfy living room with two sofas (one has a queen fold out bed), renovated bathroom, bedroom with a king bed, and junior bedroom with full size bed. Dogs and cats are welcome and there is no pet fee. The kitchen is well-stocked with a cabinet full of spices, oil and vinegar, and butter in the fridge, plus all the supplies for making s'mores over the wood stove or back yard grill. There is also a french press, drip coffee maker, and electric tea kettle with coffee, a selection of teas, sugar in the raw, artificial sweetener, and agave for your use. You just need to pick up milk or creamer if you want it. The kitchen is also outfitted with Calphalon pots and pans, Wusthof knives, a crockpot, rice cooker, a toaster, a microwave, a corkscrew, and a bottle opener. Plus all the plates, bowls, cups, mugs and flatware you might need. The cabin is perfect for a romantic getaway, a friends' weekend, or family fun in the Catskills. In the summer, tube or fish for trout in the Esopus, bike one of the routes I can recommend to you, or hike in Catskill Park. For winter fun, the house is 25 minutes from both Belleayre and Hunter, and 40 minutes from Windham mountain. Guest access Guests have access to the whole house and the yard, and there is parking for 4 cars out front. Other things to note Wifi is available in the cabin. Towels and linens are included and in the bathroom there is body wash, shampoo and conditioner, and a hairdryer for your use. There is no TV in the cabin. Cell phone service is spotty at best -- plan ahead to be without it while you're here! Sometimes Sprint and Verizon phones work in the house, but AT&T and T-Mobile do not. If you plan to go fishing, stop by the hardware store in downtown Phoenicia for a fishing license ($5 a day, $12 for the week, $25 for the year). There is a guidebook in the cabin with info about the house and surrounding area, and I am also happy to answer any questions. The guidebook includes instructions about how to use the wood stove, bike routes, and other local details.
