Feel like you're visiting your great grandparents' quirky, cozy farm house at our countryside home away from home. Stay in with plenty of games, books, toys, baking essentials, and a piano to keep busy. Or step outside to roam our 4.5 acres and warm your cheeks by the fire pit. Nestled in the Catskills, our home is near numerous hiking trails, waterfalls, lakes, caverns, restaurants, and breweries. Great for families, large groups, hunting parties, and remote workers—45 mins to Albany. 1830s farmhouse with original tin ceilings, wood floors, and door hardware. There are 4 private bedrooms (each with a minimum of 1 dresser for your use), 2 full bathrooms, two living rooms (one with an upright piano), an eat-in kitchen and separate dining area, an office, and a playroom with a pullout bed and TV with movies. Main floor master has a queen Tempurpedic bed. 2nd main floor bedroom has 2 twin beds, kids books, miscellaneous toys and a pack-n-play in the closet. Top floor master has a hybrid foam/spring king bed with, a toddler bed, and a desk with chair. Top floor 2nd bedroom has a queen bed. All rooms have window A/C units in the warmer months. Kitchen is stocked with utensils, dish ware (kid friendly included), microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and other appliances, baking tools, herbs + spices, condiments, and baking basics (flour, sugar, etc.). NOTE: the fridge ice-maker is not working so please use ice trays or bring your own ice if desired. Office has an iMac with guest access and a printer for your use. Main downstairs living room has a 45"TV with AppleTV. There are books for you to enjoy and take with you if you like. (Just don’t take more than a couple please.) Play room has baby and kid toys, baby gates, board games, card games, puzzles, and an ancient (lol) dollhouse. It also has a TV with a built-in DVD player and a VHS player. The dresser beneath it has assorted DVDs and VHS tapes. Our property is 4.5 acres (do not cross neighbor's POSTED signs). Patio has a propane grill, a fire pit with with stacks of firewood for your use, and is lit by an outdoor light and string lights. Side yard has apple trees, wild raspberry bushes, rose bushes, and lilac trees. Backyard has a meadow, stream, and tree swing. Oh, and our well water is clean and delectable. NOTEWORTHY DISCLOSURES Verizon is the only cell provider that works in this area. Make sure you've got navigation keyed in while close to the major arteries (87, 90). You will have to rely on the WIFI once you've arrived if you do not use Verizon. HOUSE Access any part of the house except the locked attic crawlspace and outdoor shed (unless there is an emergency or you'd like to use our tools in which case send us a message and we'll give you the lock combo). Please restrict ball playing (like golf and baseball) to the lower field or the playground. We had a ball from a guest go through our neighbors storm and exterior window. Honest $350 mistake but; ya know. ;) MYOSOTIS LAKE The lake is open to kayakers and hikers year round. During the summer, the lifeguard "beach" guest passes are issued for per family (or group) for a week at a time and can only be purchased by Huyck preserve members. If you would like a pass you must message us in advance of your stay so we can purchase your pass and send you a $ request. Passes are usually $50/week but we will update this listing if/when it increases. We are very quick to respond to messages during your stay. Message us for details about lake access during the summer months. Located in the Catskill Mountains, this house is flanked by forest with an ephemeral stream and has 2 apple trees, a pear tree, a wild blackberry bush, a vegetable garden and patio with fire pit, BBQ, table chairs, a bench, and a swing + slide playset. There is a park with a large field, tennis court, and kid's playground just down the road (2 minute walk). The home is also walkable to Main Street in the village of Rensselaerville: -the town park (with playground) is a stone's throw away, at the bottom of the road -the Rensselaerville Library is a 5 minute walk -the Catalpa House bed and breakfast is a 5 minute walk -entrance to the Huyck Preserve waterfall and 12+ miles of hiking trails is 7-10 minute walk -the swimming beach at Myosotis Lake is a 20 minute walk For groceries and other essentials you'll need a car to get to Tops in Greenville about 15-20 minutes away. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are 35-45 minutes away in Colonie (near Albany). Refer to our Groceries guidebook for additional options. There is a rifle/trap range fewer than 3 miles away—we can arrange to let experienced shooters use this for a nominal fee. This is only a partial list of local attractions. Refer to our Guidebooks for more. -DriveIn32 (Greenville DriveIn theater) is 18 minutes away. -Zoom Flume is a 25 minute drive. -Windham Mountain is 25 minutes and Hunter Mountain is 45 minutes. -Vroman's Nose Hiking Trail is 27 minutes. -Howe Caverns and Secret Caverns (our favorite) are each 40 minutes. -Downtown Hudson and the Hudson Train Station are 45 minutes. RECENT RENOVATION We had to do a major reno to our kitchen this past spring due to a pipe burst. Had lots of trouble with our contractor so please be aware there is still some cabinet hardware missing, doorway and other trim. Also the ice maker isn't working properly. Everything else is fully equipped and functional. The house is also on 3 Nest thermostats so it’s easy to set the temperature in the colder months. A/C is window unit only. PETS We LOVE dogs and are happy to allow them in our home, however we ask that you please keep them off the furniture and/or beds as dog hair is hard to remove. Extra charges will be assessed if dog hair is too pervasive and/or damages occurs due to pets. We provide a baby/dog gates in case you need them. You may let your dogs roam unleashed at your own discretion. Do not allow them to trespass onto the neighbors' yards or harass any passersby, and be leery of local wildlife. We have bears, mountain lions, and fishers. The latter may be the smallest but they might just be the nastiest... Please pick up after your furry friends—we don't expect you to scour the perimeter of the property but please ensure that there are no droppings in areas where people will be walking and DO NOT leave filled poop bags anywhere or you will incur additional charges. INSECTS + OTHER CRITTERS First off, this area is rife with ticks. Consider using insect repellant liberally and always check yourself, your kids, and dogs for ticks after every outdoor adventure. Also, deer are quite literally everywhere so please drive carefully. Lastly, this is an 1830’s country home—we have regular Terminix visits but there’s no silver bullet and the occasional mouse is just a part of country living. If you leave food out on the counters you will attract mice and insects. If you are uncomfortable with this, please do not book our home. We promise we won’t be offended ;)
