Every host plans their own special meal and may have unique, creative ideas for a small family gathering when everyone comes together. Frequently Asked Questions ✔️ What type of coffee should I buy? We recommend coffee beans, as our coffee machine is designed for them. ✔️ Can I use charcoal for the barbecue? Yes, of course. Bags of charcoal are available in any supermarket. If you plan to have a barbecue, we recommend purchasing charcoal in advance. ✔️ Can I bring my own towels? Yes, absolutely! You are welcome to bring your own towels, especially beach towels, as they are very convenient and perfect for placing on the soft cushions of the sun loungers. ✔️ Do you provide airport or train station transfers? We do not provide transfers from the airport or train station. However, if you need assistance at an inconvenient time of day, we will always try to help. Please note that taxis are available at the airport and train station at all times. The travel time from the airport or train station to the villa is no more than 15 minutes. The average fare is €15–20, depending on the season. Other things to note ✔️ Can I visit the villa before booking? Unfortunately, we do not offer tours or pre-booking visits to the house, either inside or outside. This is due to several reasons: 1. Airbnb policies: Sharing contact details before a confirmed booking is against Airbnb’s rules, which we strictly follow. 2. Respect for our guests: There are usually guests staying at the villa, and we prioritize their privacy and comfort. 3. Private property: This is a private residence, and such visits would pose logistical challenges for our family. However, we have provided an extensive photo gallery with over 300 images and a detailed description of Villa Merkel on this page. Compared to similar listings, this level of detail already provides more than enough information. ✔️ How can I be sure the villa is not a scam? This is a completely reasonable concern. Here’s why you can book with confidence: • Years of experience: We have been active on Airbnb for many years and hold the “Superhost” status, which is awarded to the most experienced and highly-rated hosts. • Guest reviews: You can read numerous positive reviews from guests who have stayed with us over the years. • Financial security: Your payment is not made directly to the host but to Airbnb. The funds are only transferred to the host after your check-in and first night’s stay, ensuring your money is protected and refundable in case of unexpected issues. • Official registration: We are officially registered with the local authorities and are legitimate taxpayers. Since we started hosting, we have never canceled a booking on our end. ✔️ How is the pool kept clean? A specialized company monitors the water quality from April to November, performing regular checks on the pH level and other key parameters. The pool is maintained using three different filtration methods, ensuring high water cleanliness and safety. ✔️ Is there secure parking available? Parking options depend on the number of vehicles: • 5 to 7 cars can be parked directly on the villa’s premises. • Additional cars can be parked in a public parking lot, just a 3-minute walk away. All parking areas are monitored by security cameras. To date, we have had no incidents of theft from parked cars. ✔️ When was the villa last renovated? The most recent cosmetic renovation of the rooms and common areas was carried out in November–December 2024. We constantly upgrade and modernize both the interior and exterior spaces to make them more comfortable and enjoyable for our guests. These improvements take place outside the peak season, between November and April. At the time of this response (January–April 2025), we are currently renovating the common areas to create new relaxation spaces with advanced features. ✔️ Are there shops and cafés near the villa? Yes! A municipal center, just 3–4 minutes on foot, offers: • a hair salon, • a local grocery store, • a bakery, • a café, • a pastry shop, • a gym, • an outdoor sports facility. For larger grocery shopping, major supermarkets like Carrefour, Lidl, Leclerc, and Intermarché are about 10 minutes away by car. We highly recommend stocking up on groceries in advance so you can maximize your vacation time rather than spending it on shopping trips. ✔️ What are the best walking and sightseeing options near the villa? Right next to the villa, the Nive River flows, and its scenic river promenade is perfect for long walks and cycling. You can walk to Bayonne and continue along the riverbanks to see the confluence of the Nive and Adour Rivers—a picturesque spot that beautifully captures the natural and cultural essence of the French Basque Country. We also recommend: • Biarritz city center, featuring historic promenades, beautiful beaches, and charming streets filled with history from the time of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie. • Villa Arnaga, a museum and park dedicated to Edmond Rostand, the famous playwright of Cyrano de Bergerac. • The village of Espelette, a classic Basque town known for its red chili peppers, jams, cheeses, and ham—some of the most famous delicacies of the French Basque region. These places will provide you with unique experiences, allowing you to immerse yourself in the history, nature, and culture of the area. ✔️ We don’t have a car. What are the best public transport options? A bus stop is located just 1 minute from the villa, offering easy access to the center and beaches of Bayonne, Biarritz, Anglet, and other nearby towns. Starting in May 2025, a new electric “Trambus” service will operate just 2 minutes away on foot. This rapid transit system will provide fast and efficient connections across the French Basque Country and even to the Landes region. Additionally, there are bike rental stations and other micro-mobility services available, making it even easier to explore the region in an eco-friendly way. Registration Details 64024002626BD
