Description

A basic and cosy shepherds hut a few minutes walk from the Hadrian’s Wall trail, tucked away on a tiny campsite (Camping at Banks), a no vehicles site where you can enjoy the sounds of nature. The hut has a wood burning stove, bottom sheets and pillows. You can hire sleeping bags from us. There is a compost loo and outside sink but no shower or electricity. The hut is suitable for those arriving by foot or bicycle - there is NO PARKING on the site. Single night stays welcome! The space The hut is a traditional shepherds hut design so is compact and cosy. Inside there is a double bed with a limited headroom single bunk on top. We supply bottom sheets, pillows and pillowcases. Guests can bring their own duvet/sleeping bag or can rent our Fine Bedding Company night owl sleeping bags for £5 per person. There is also a small oak table and foldaway chairs plus a wood burning stove. Wood and kindling is supplied with the option to purchase more if needed. There is a compost loo and outdoor clay sink close to the hut plus a picnic table. There is NO SHOWER. There is NO ELECTRICITY in the hut - it is completely off-grid! We provide a lantern but it is a good idea to bring a torch. The hut is small and there is no fireguard so is not suitable for very young children. Guest access You’ll have the hut to yourself plus use of a compost loo and outside sink. There is no shower. The hut is located on a small campsite for walkers and cyclists so there may be others camping nearby, particularly in Spring and Summer. Other things to note Please note there is no parking beside the hut and no vehicle access along the lane leading to the hut (about 200m from the road). As such, the hut is most suitable for those arriving on foot or by bike. There is a small car-park at Banks Turret which is approx a 0.5km walk away so for those arriving by car. The hut is not suitable for very young children. If you are using one of the baggage transfer companies operating along Hadrian's Wall the pick up and drop off location is the wooden bag store at the back of Newgate House (the house at the end of the lane leading to the campsite). If the bag store is full and the weather is wet there is a tarp inside the store which you can put over bags to keep them dry. Bags are left at your own risk.
