Experience serenity on Lower Sysladobsis Lake. At Spruce Lodge you will watch the sun rise and set in breathtaking colors, relax by the water, fish on the lake, watch eagles soar, laugh with friends around the camp fire, and fall asleep to the sound of loons Families and friends return year after year to carry on the tradition of their summer vacations, yearly fishing trips, and hunting adventures. Memories and friendships to last a lifetime are made here. The space One of the first camps built at Spruce Lodge, this building dates back to 1904. You’ll find The Owl cozy and charming, with solid log construction still exposed. This camp offers slightly more privacy, with a small screened porch that has built in benches. The Owl sleeps up to 4 people; (2) twin beds, (1) double bed. There is a fully equipped kitchen/sitting area with a love seat. Bed linens and towels are provided for your convenience. Three classic lakefront camps were built in the early 1900’s, original ‘Maine camps’ from the era of sporting lodges. The housekeeping cabins are full of rustic charm while offering modern amenities; each has its own fully equipped kitchen including a dining area, bathroom with shower, screened porch, picnic table, and fire pit with grill. Linens and towels are provided for your convenience. One stack of firewood and a gas grill with propane are included with rental. Additional firewood may be purchased. Kayaks and canoes are available for day use on the lake free of charge. Motor boats are available for a daily rate of $75. Please bring life jackets. Well behaved dogs are welcomed. Guest access If you’re interested in exploring outside of the lodge, there are several options within just a few miles, as well as short day trips. Almanac Mountain is just a few miles away, and a short hike will reward you with sensational views spring, summer, and fall. Dobsy Stream is the “local swimming hole.” Roughly 2 miles from the Lodge, visitors can enjoy an afternoon in the “pool” and a picnic lunch. The Springfield Fair is a favorite activity on Labor Day weekend. There are also events at the fairgrounds throughout the summer. Baxter State Park / Mount Katahdin is roughly a 90 minute drive. Debsconeag Ice Caves are located just south of Baxter State Park in the shadow of Mount Katahdin (approx. a 90 minute drive). The Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness Area contains the highest concentration of pristine, remote ponds in New England, as well as thousands of acres of mature forests. For those who enjoy golfing, Jato Highlands is located in Lincoln. Take a day trip and visit the West Quoddy Headlight, the easternmost point on the United States mainland (about 2.25 hour drive one way). There are hundreds of miles of trails and dirt roads for ATV adventures, many accessible directly from the Lodge. ATV Maine is an excellent resource, with a listing of several clubs in the state of Maine. Other things to note Check in 3:00 PM Check out 10:00 AM
