1787 Historic Home

Description

The Andrew Mann Inn is located in close proximity to Binghamton, Oneonta, Cooperstown, and the Catskill Mountains. This house was built in 1787 for use as an Inn/tavern originally. It operated as an Inn until the 1820s when it became a farm, and home. Today, we are carrying on the historic tradition of welcoming travelers who need a place to crash and get some rest. The space Stay at the Historic Andrew Mann Inn built circa 1787 by James DeCalvin for Revolutionary War Veteran David Bates. It served as a tavern/inn catering to travelers heading west on the Susquehanna Turnpike (the longest turnpike in New York State at the time). Historically, there was an Inn located almost every mile along the 90 mile turnpike, yet today, this is only one still housing guests today. This wonderful building has remained remarkably intact with very few changes to the building over time. Warning, the house is NOT fully restored. However, if the idea of staying in an 18th century home that is currently undergoing restoration in the purest, rawest form excites you, then this place is for you! The guest room is located adjacent to the bathroom in one of the original downstairs bed chambers." Historically speaking, this is the room that the sick, elderly, or women giving birth would stay in (due to its added warmth and first floor location) during the many years the home operated as an Inn until the 1820s. This guest room is fully restored with wifi accessibility. You will also be greeted on the property by a flock of backyard free range chickens (various varieties), a cat named Ruskin, and a dog named Daisy. Guest has full access to the house and yard. You can relax in the backyard, have lunch on a picnic table surrounded by chickens, or take a stroll on the back hill on one of our wooded trails. The house is also located along the Susquehanna River and very close to the Unadilla River, which are both wonderful for kayaking. There are a few really nice dining options in town, and many local attractions within a driving distance. A short list of some of these attractions are: Cooperstown Baseball Hall of Fame, Dreamspark, Fenimore Museum, Farmer's Museum, Hyde Hall, Ross Park Zoo, Animal Adventure Park, Roberson Museum, Phelps Mansion, Delaware County Historic Association, etc.... I want to repeat and stress to interested guests though once again that the house is not fully restored and is in a state of restoration. However, the restoration state gives the guest an inside glance into a historic house in its purest form with an ambience like no other. This listing may not be suitable for everyone's interests, but it is definitely a one of a kind experience. Guest access Guests are able to access most of the house and backyard. You can hang in the historic rooms, make use of the kitchen (fully stocked with cooking implements), or hang in the yard. During your stay I (the owner) lives here full time with my cat and dog. If you need anything during your stay, we will be around to assist. Other things to note If hauntings are your thing, we have had several people say they have witnessed paranormal experiences within this house including the owners.
