Description
Set in the beautiful Tillamook forest on the banks of the Wilson River. This house is a fisherman and kayakers dream! The property sits on the Wilson with a wraparound deck, it's own waterfall, and incredible views of mountains and wildlife. The space This is a 1 bedroom house with multiple open loft areas, situated on the banks of the Wilson River. While this is technically a 1 bedroom home, there are ample sleeping spaces, to include 2 loft areas, both of which offer stunning views of the river and adjacent waterfall. Guest access There are a few things we need to let you know before you come, one of the major things is we do not have recycling service out here so any recycling that you bring in cans, bottles, cardboard, etc. you must pack out with you. Also, we have a wonderful wood-burning stove, but we do not provide firewood, so we recommend you bring some with you, or pick up some at the Fred Meyer which is in Tillamook which is 13 miles from the house. We do have trash pick-up, but we ask that you keep your trash down to two large bags and put them in the red containers on the backside of the house. Check out is at 10am (we do extend check out time, if you ask us in advance, depending on if we don’t have someone coming to stay directly after you) Check in is at 4pm (we do allow for early check-in, if you ask us in advance, depending on if the next guest is not directly following your stay) If coming from Portland take highway 26 to Hwy 6 headed towards Tillamook. Take Hwy 6 headed west for approximately 38 miles to mile marker 13 which you will see on your left. Once you see mile marker 13, the turnoff is about a thousand feet on your right. We are the first right where you will see a sign for “The Narrows.” Take that first right and then another sharp right heading towards the closed gate (there will be an open gate on your left-hand side please do not go through that, It is private property. You should not head through any gate. We note this because the neighbors do not like it when our guests drive on their property). We are the first driveway on the left. You should be headed downhill. The address is 24950 Wilson River Road, Tillamook OR 97141. When you first are headed down the driveway you will see a chain with signs that say “NO PARKING”. Simply get out of your car and undo the chain, you can leave it unchained for your whole visit, we just ask that you put it back up when you leave. Unfortunately, people often drive down this driveway not realizing it’s a private drive and get stuck, including large vehicles like FedEx trucks. Please make sure the chain is put back when you leave/ check out. We only allowed two vehicles parked on our property, no trailers, boats, or things of that nature can be parked on the property. The driveway is VERY STEEP! If there’s any snow or ice do not under any circumstances go down the driveway. We recommend parking at the top of the hill and using the wheelbarrow, provided to bring down all your stuff. DO NOT go down the driveway unless you have a four wheel or all-wheel drive under any circumstances, you will get stuck, you will have to pay for a tow at your own expense, and any damage, which there always is when a vehicle gets stuck. Please check in with us before bringing a vehicle down the driveway, let us know what kind of vehicle it is and that it has four wheel or all-wheel drive before even attempting to go down the driveway. Even after making sure that your vehicle will be able to make it up and down the driveway, we ask that you bring one of the vehicles down, unload all your stuff, and then keep your vehicle parked at the top of the driveway in the two parking spaces available. Even with checking in with us about the type of vehicle, and that it meets the requirements to go down the driveway, If you feel even a little bit uncomfortable going down the driveway, do not attempt it, instead feel free to park in the parking space above the driveway (if there is any doubt in your mind about your car making it up and down do not risk it, it is very expensive to have someone come and tow you out of the steep driveway, and it will ruin your nice getaway). If you have more than one vehicle that is unsafe to go down the driveway, simply park the other vehicle in front of the driveway. If you have any sort of larger model or raised vehicle, monster truck, minivan, or a pick-up truck without all-wheel drive/4X4 DO NOT go down the driveway! Smaller/Mid-size trucks, SUVs, and cars with all wheel drive or 4 Wheel drive only!! These vehicles seem to have traction issues and will cause damage. Please do not attempt bringing your larger model vehicle down even with four wheel and all-wheel drive it’s a challenge and could cost damage. Please note that any damage done drainage pipes and driveways will be the responsibility of the tenant. Use caution with all vehicles. If you are at all worried that your vehicle may have a problem please park up top of the hill, on the driveway itself or to the left of the driveway (if you’re facing downwards) on gravel parking pad (do not pull forward into the brush off the gravel that is where the water main is located). When parking at the top, make sure you are fully on our property either blocking the driveway or on the pad on the left, under no circumstances park out on the medium on the road or on the side of the road (the Narrows neighborhood, will literally send me a picture if anyone is parking out on the road with a medium). If you plan on bringing two vehicles, please contact us before you arrive with where you should park. Sorry but we feel we should over explain rather than someone get stuck. Other things to note While this is a incredibly fun and beautiful place there are some definite safety hazards on the property. First off, the river is extremely deep with a dangerously swift moving current during the winter and spring months. From late September until around late May, do not attempt to swim in the river. During the summer months, this is an incredibly fun place to swim and lounge with family and friends. The banks of the river are incredibly slippery year round, so please use extreme care when walking down from the stairs to the river. Under no circumstances allow children to be unattended on the banks of the river or near the pools. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear. Step cautiously and try to stay on dried moss when possible. The stairs on the decks were made incredibly well, and completely rebuilt in some places from the ground up, but they can still be extremely slippery during periods of heavy rain. While the hand-rails on the deck are very secure, do not lean on them. Accidents happen, so make sure to use caution. While anyone is welcome to explore any part of our property, it is in the forest and does pose risks. Explore cautiously. DO NOT attempt to climb up or down the waterfalls!! This will destroy our waterways, and is extremely dangerous! So please take care on all part of the property whether it's by the river are up by the house. Please be respectful of all wildlife. There are several bald eagles that fly past the house most days, up and down the river (Note: It is against federal law to pick up any bald eagle feathers and/or remove them) there is a multitude of newts, frogs and garter snakes to be viewed during the spring, summer and early fall months. Please beware that these critters excrete poisonous toxins from their skin. Handle with care. Because the cabin is located in the Tillamook Forest, and although it's rare, you must keep your eyes out for snakes, coyotes, cougars, and the improbable likelihood of bears. During certain times of the year there is a great hike to the left of the property which meanders down to a waterfall, and an enormous pool in the river which is quite breathtaking. While it is a beautiful walk, it can be challenging to get to, and during many months of the year impossible to access because of water levels and current. Make sure to always wear appropriate footwear. This does not include flip flops. Sorry. One very important safety note about the house that we'd like to make clear, is that the small loft area. While incredibly fun to sleep in, it is extremely dangerous for children and because so, they should NEVER be left unattended. To access this area, one must climb a steep ladder with a small trap door that opens into the loft area. For this reason, we insist anyone sleeping up there understand that as soon as they go up the ladder, they must immediately close the trap door to prevent anyone from accidentally falling threw the floor. It's a fun little area, we just don't want anyone to get hurt.
