Agnes’s Loft, extended stay discount, breakfast
Free Continental Breakfast. Peaceful, completely private entrance, upstairs apartment of the 1880 historic house built by owner & Wooden Shoe Maker Gerhard Deymann, which is a Folk Victorian home. It is fully furnished & updated keeping much of its historic charm. It has bikes, grill, patio, yard, private parking & appliances. It is 6 minutes (4 miles) to interstates 57, 70, & dozens of restaurants & 1 block to downtown. It has an indoor staircase with gate that is fairly steep. Super safe area. The home is setup for business and small families. It does have stairs and a child gate. The rooms have a blend of new and antique furniture. It has (2) comfy king beds, plus a roll away bed and small love seat for kids or teens. The internet is fast and a large smart tv is available with Youtube TV, Netflix, Prime and local channels. There is a small brick building next to the home which was the wooden shoe shop during the late 1800's and into the Great Depression. We continue to restore and improve this home and property almost daily. My grandmother, Agnes Kitten, purchased the home after the builder died in 1939. She raised my late father Mack and aunt Jane during 1930's recession and on as a strong single mother. In the 1940’s she created this loft to help pay the bills. The house walls are made from 3 layers of brick (the builder also made the brick). The foundation/cellar were hand dug and made from local gathered stone and mortar. The floor joists are 3"x14" hardwood boards cut from the local trees. We are starting to decorate with historic photos of the property. It is one of the oldest remaining homes in Effingham County. The loft has own private entrance. I can usually be there on a moments notice if you have any problems. If I'm gone I have others covering for me. The neighborhood is super safe. It's a small, extremely clean little town with hard working friendly people. It has a lot of German Heritage and the town is well known for sports (the Wooden Shoes, named from the homes builder/owner/ wooden shoe maker). There is a lot of night life uptown 1 block away if you wish, with a couple restaurants (the Brickbat Bar and Grill is my favorite). The city of Effingham is right next door at 4 miles away and has multiple wineries, theater, dozens of restaurants, bike trails, and more. We have a taxi service. There is plenty of parking on the property. Coffee, creamer, milk, juice, water, and bathroom items are all included as is the continental style breakfast until gone. A large smart tv is included. The living room has 1 small reclining couch. A small rollaway bed is available (bedding included for all).
