The cottage is nestled in 150 acres of organic farmland, native bush & river front, 20 minutes from Kerikeri. The space River Cottage is the ultimate romantic retreat perfect for a couple looking to escape, romance, relax and unwind. One of two identical adjoining cottages, each completely private and nestled in our 5 acre sub tropical gardens, moments from the river, the two double en suite bedrooms also allow a small family or two couples to enjoy the beautiful surroundings at Takou River. Beautifully furnished, each cottage offers peace and privacy, a cosy wood fire, fully equipped kitchen, your own private romantic alfresco claw foot bath perched on the sunny north facing deck, BBQ and 5 acres of sub tropical gardens to explore bordering the peaceful Takou River. River Cottage is the perfect destination in itself ideal for relaxing under starry night skies; warmed by the wood fire; soaking up the sun; discovering the magical glow worms; kayaking, fishing, swimming and exploring the farm, pasture and native bush on foot; and taking a canoe or kayak downstream to discover the stunning and deserted sandy beaches at Takou Bay. Or simply basking in the bliss of doing absolutely nothing. River Cottage is perfect as a base to explore the beautiful Bay of Islands, Kerikeri, Russell, Paihia and Greater Far North region. Guest access In addition to your own peaceful cottage and private alfresco claw foot bath, guests have access to the following amenities at Takou River: our beautiful 5 acre sub-tropical gardens to wander and explore; the tranquil Takou River to swim, fish, paddle and discover; our private boathouse and jetty with kayaks, canoes and fishing rods to borrow; our 150 acre organic farm with marked walks along the river, through pastures and native bush to secluded swimming and picnic spots; magical glow worms; and last but not least, the deserted sandy beaches a short paddle downstream at Takou Bay. The tariff includes free WiFi, beautiful linen, fresh flowers, books and magazines, hand made toiletries, gas for the bbq, wood for the fire, and free use of the kayaks, canoes and fishing rods. River Cottage is private and sole occupancy and one of two identical adjoining cottages, each completely private. We can also arrange an evening in our magical Hot Tub by the river (POA)- to be booked in advance. Other things to note We usually operate a 2 night minimum stay, although can sometimes accommodate a single night, particularly during the winter or mid week, so please ask! Over Christmas and New Year we have a 6-7 night minimum stay.
