This old house is completely renovated, with a superb view across the Charente river. The long garden has a river frontage. Via a nearby bridge is the Isle aux Vaches; a short walk across this island leads to the Musee des Bandes Dessinees. In the other direction, a short walk up to and through the city ramparts leads to the picturesque and busy old town. Angouleme is a regional centre with markets, theatres, restaurants, churches and museums. There is parking on the property. The space This house was renovated on three levels. There are coffee making facilities on each level. Level (1)The sous sol/garden room has been converted into a comfortable bed-sitting room with its own shower room and garden access. A couple can sleep here. Level (2) The ground floor was adapted to have an ergonomic kitchen with all facilities and a dining area with four table seats. There is a sitting area and it is here that the television/monitor can be watched. There are amazing views across the gardens and Isle aux Vaches. The shadows of the stones are particularly interesting as they move across the garden as the day proceeds. Level (3) The first floor has a bedroom containing a king-size double bed, good sized wardrobe and chest of drawers. A shower room and toilet make this an en-suite bedroom. The bedroom accesses a large balcony with a table and chairs where morning coffee can be taken. A previous guest reported a problem with ants inside the house. This was quickly and easily rectified. Guest access A long, interesting rock garden with wind sculptures extends to the river Charentes. There is a secluded and shady seating area next to the river with a view over the island. Next to the house is a large decking area with garden furniture. It takes only fifteen minutes to walk steeply up through the ramparts to the old town centre. The centre is lively, with many restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. A beautiful fifteen minute walk in the other direction across the Isle aux Vaches leads to the museums of graphic arts, for which Angouleme is justifiably famous. Other things to note The main museum in the old city is excellent. Part of its displays includes fossil dinosaurs. There are many fossils in the rocks of the countryside around Angouleme.
